Job Description

We are seeking an energetic, organized, and engaging Teen Coordinator to help facilitate community and meaningful Jewish experiences for teens in grades 8-12 across a three congregation, Jewish collaboration. This collaboration promotes Humanistic Jewish values during its programming as outlined in the Society for Humanistic Judaism. The coordinator will lead a combination of educational, social, and community-building programs designed to keep teens connected to one another, their congregations, and to their larger Jewish identity. Curriculum and activities will mostly be chosen by the Teen Programming Committee of the Collaboration and teens themselves. The Teen Programming Committee Members will organize events, and the Teen Coordinator will attend these events as the adult chaperone, lead them, troubleshoot problems, and mentor youth. The teen coordinator will report to the Teen Programming Committee and meet with them once a month at their monthly meetings for up to thirty minutes of each meeting. These meeting days and times have not been determined yet but they will likely take place on a weekday evening after 7:00 p.m. Responsibilities The Teen Program is in the process of being redeveloped, and some details of the position are still being formed. In its first year, we envision somewhere between 10-26 events over the course of any 12 month period that last between 2-4 hours each that a Teen Coordinator will be responsible for. All events will take place sometime between Friday nights and Sunday evenings unless there is an unusual exception. The teen coordinator will need to be available to participate in programming during the weekends. Thus, the descriptions below are examples of what would be expected. Attend, supervise, lead, and troubleshoot up to two Sunday morning programs (9:30am - 12:30pm) at or within a 30 minute drive of Garrett Park Elementary School in Garrett Park, MD Attend, supervise, lead, and troubleshoot up to two weekend evening programs each month for teens Attend, supervise, lead, and troubleshoot social events such as bowling, ice skating, movie nights, etc. Attend, supervise, lead, and troubleshoot programming focused on Jewish learning, cross-cultural understanding, social action, and community engagement. Adhere to the values and teachings of Secular Humanistic Judaism during events. Be available for weekly communications via email with teens and parents regarding upcoming events and activities via platforms like email, text, newsletter, etc. if someone has a question Collaborate with designated leadership from Kehila Chadasha, Beth Chai, and Machar, likely the Teen Programming Committee Chair. Provide a brief, monthly report to the Tripartite Leadership Committee or Teen Programming Committee. Encourage teen participation and foster an inclusive, welcoming community environment. While at events, the Teen Coordinator will take an active role in making sure the event runs smoothly, mentoring youth as appropriate, and participating with the youth as appropriate. Compensation $40 per hour Guaranteed 40 hours over a 12-month period, and up to 80 hours depending on interest in the community for additional programming. Time spent speaking to leadership in a monthly meeting and administrative work such as replying to parent emails would be paid and included in this 40 hours. Position Growth Based on budget and interest, the program and position may expand after its first year to up to 50 events a year which could include: 2-4 Sunday morning programs per month Two weekend programs per month outside of Sunday morning
