Family Advocate
POSITION OVERVIEW
This a temporary part-time position with plans to go to a full time position if/when funding allows. Reporting to the Child Services Manager, the Family Advocate provides services and resources to ensure a consistent and coordinated comprehensive network of support for each child and family served by Beyond Abuse.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associates Degree or higher in the field of social work, human services, criminal justice, or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred. 2. Ability to relate to individuals and groups of all cultural background in an empathetic, non-judgmental manner. 3. Knowledge of the impact and dynamics of sexual violence and child abuse and the trauma of child victims and their non-offending family members. 4. Possess excellent communication and office skills. 5. Available to work flexible hours including some evening hours and weekends.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide crisis assessment and intervention, risk assessment and safety planning and support for children and family members at all stages of involvement with the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC). Provide assessment of individual needs, cultural considerations for child/family and help to ensure those needs are being addressed in concert with the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and other service providers. Be present at the CAC during the forensic interview in order to participate in information sharing with other MDT members, inform and support the family regarding the coordinated multidisciplinary response, and assess needs of children and non-offending caregivers. Provide education and assistance in ensuring access to victim's rights and crime victim's compensation. Provide assistance in procuring concrete services (housing, protective orders, domestic violence intervention, food, transportation, public assistance, civil legal services, etc.). Provide referrals for trauma-focused, evidence-supported mental health and specialized medical treatment. Facilitating access to transportation to interviews, court, treatment, and other case related meetings. Engage with the child and family to help them understand the investigation/prosecution process and help ensure understanding of crime victim's rights. Participate in Multi-disciplinary Team Case Review staffings to: collaborate with city and county law enforcement and public and private service agencies; communicate and discuss the unique needs of the child and family and associated services planning; help facilitate coordination of identified services; and ensure that the child and family's concerns are heard and addressed. Conduct follow up contact with clients throughout the duration of the case and case tracking with investigation/prosecuting agencies. Provide support and education, including individual or group sessions, to secondary victims. Assist victims in the Emergency Department during normal hours of operation and provide 24-hour back-up to volunteers assisting victims in Emergency Department. Review and complete documentation for referral screenings, intakes, scheduling services and provision of services and maintain accurate and current records and statistics. Other duties deemed appropriate and necessary by Supervisor and/or Leadership. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of duties or requirements for the position. Other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required or assigned as necessary. This position is primarily located in our Laurens location.
