PRIMARY PURPOSE
To assist students and families identified under the McKinney-Vento Act in their personal, academic, and vocational development through individual consultation to maximize personal growth and development.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Master's Degree Social Work Licensure by the appropriate board
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Training in the fields of social skills, self-esteem, conflict resolution, communication skills, decision making, parent education, crisis intervention. Have knowledge of community agencies that are available to assist families. Exhibit excellent communication (verbal and written), public relations, and interpersonal skills. Possess knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills. Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures for the Mesquite Independent School District. Possess knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills. Ability to meet established deadlines and to maintain excellent records. Exhibit highly effective organizational skills.
EXPERIENCE
Successful experience as a social worker in the public or private sector. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Be available to provide support to students identified under McKinney-Vento. Assist in providing information regarding opportunities outside the local school setting which benefit students and families. Collaborate and establish partnerships with community organizations and businesses to provide support to families experiencing homelessness. Assist parents and caregivers in locating appropriate service agencies and how to access them. Consult with teachers of identified students concerning academics, attendance, and behavior. Consult with parents concerning the academic, vocational, and personal development of identified students. Assist in the backpack, hygiene pack, and school clothing distribution to students experiencing homelessness. Assist in providing training to campus personnel on the identification and support of students and families experiencing homelessness. Provides trauma-informed mental health services to students experiencing homelessness under the McKinney Vento Act, including biopsychosocial assessment, supportive counseling, and crisis intervention. Addresses emotional, behavioral, and adjustment-related needs while collaborating with caregivers, school personnel, and community partners to promote stability, resilience, and academic success. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands:
Working with students and their families identified as homeless. Communicating well, making multiple decisions regarding students' educational, physical, and emotional well-being, and maintaining emotional control under stress. Interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Maintain confidentiality of students and their families. Ability to meet deadlines from multiple assignment requests on a frequent basis.
Physical demands/environmental factors:
Time Flexibility In district and community travel. Extended hours of interpersonal relationships Prolonged and irregular hours. Extended periods of computer data entry. Reaching with hands and arms frequently repeating the same hand, arm, or finger motion.
