Job Description

Overview The Bilingual Family Advocate/Back-Up Forensic Interviewer is a vital support role focused on helping families affected by child abuse and neglect. This full-time, non-exempt position provides comprehensive case management, emotional support, and advocacy services to ensure the safety and well-being of children and their families. The advocate acts as a liaison between families, community resources, and the legal system. The Bilingual Family Advocate/Back-Up Forensic Interviewer will also act as a back-up Forensic Interviewer, conducting sensitive and thorough interviews with children believed to be victims of child abuse and/or neglect, when needed.
Duties Relationship Building :
Establishes and maintains supportive relationships with families throughout the duration of a case.
Needs Assessment & Planning :
Evaluates family needs and creates tailored service plans.
Advocacy :
Represents the best interests of children and families in legal and welfare systems.
Collaboration :
Works closely with law enforcement, social workers, and legal professionals.
Crisis Intervention :
Provides immediate support and safety planning during crises.
Medical Support :
Accompanies children during SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) exams.
Resource Assistance :
Helps families apply for benefits (e.g., Crime Victims' Compensation, HHSC, housing).
Legal Aid Support :
Assists with protective orders and other legal processes.
Case Management :
Offers ongoing support, referrals, and follow-up services.
Court Support :
Educates and accompanies children and caregivers during legal proceedings.
Child Interviews :
Conducts sensitive interviews with children and collaborates with forensic teams. Qualifications Must be self-motivated, confident, results-oriented and maintain high moral and ethical standards. Must have an understanding of child abuse dynamics, trauma-informed care, and family systems. A bachelor's degree and the ability to converse in English and Spanish are required. Salary The annual salary for this position ranges from $44,000 - $48,000. HCWC also provides annual raises to all staff, longevity increases after 2 years of employment, $500 toward continuing education/trainings per year, as well as reimbursement for work-related mileage at the current state rate of $0.76/mile.
