$40,000-$45,000 with an opportunity for housing Job Summary The Director of Family and Youth Ministries will guide individuals toward a mature life of faith in Jesus Christ and will plan and implement a comprehensive family and youth program that ministers to the spiritual needs of individuals from birth through college-aged.
Essential Functions:
  • Develop effective and efficient ministries for the Thrasher Memorial UMC (TMUMC) families and youth that foster spiritual growth, relationships, connectedness, and community care through personal and group experiences.
  • Connect and coordinate with the Director of Children's Ministries and the Director of the TMUMC Pre-School to create and implement activities that will engage families and youth in the church.
  • Will supervise the Director of Children's Ministries.
  • Coordinate Christian Education programs relating to families and youth (i.e. plan, recruit and train teachers, select and order curriculum, and implement ministry).
  • Actively engage and communicate with families and youth in multiple ways (face-to-face interactions, phone/text, e-mail, social media, church website, etc.).
  • Coordinate engagement with the Vinton and Roanoke communities.
  • Offer leadership opportunities to the youth, keeping them engaged in their faith, in the youth ministry, and the church at large.
  • Chair the Youth Team to assist with the necessary duties related to Youth Ministry.
  • Chair the Family Team to coordinate various ministries related to the church.
  • Create plans to intentionally incorporate youth with all abilities, coordinating with parents/guardians and the Youth Team.
  • Coordinate all missions outreach (local and away from Thrasher).
  • Be an advocate for families and youth to educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns, and needs of families and youth in the local church and community.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Attend all staff and Church Council meetings.
  • Organize background checks for all adults volunteering with family and youth ministries.
  • Organize a youth-led Sunday worship service in conjunction with the Pastor.
  • Network with other churches to share opportunities related to family and youth ministries.
  • Provide Child and Youth Protection Policy training for staff, Children's Ministry and Family and Youth Ministries volunteers at least twice per year.
  • Provide necessary written reports for church communications.
  • Review and update the Family and Youth ministries web page at least monthly.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or extensive work experience in family/youth education or an appropriate area of human services that incorporates family and youth.
  • Ability to welcome and interact with people.
  • Demonstrates leadership in administration, recruiting, delegating, and organizing.
  • Strong desire to work in teams.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to move freely in and out of different locations (church, homes, businesses).
  • Able to speak in a public setting.

                Is a good judge of talent and spiritual giftedness. Can accurately project how people are likely to perform in a variety of settings. Provides challenging and stretching tasks and assignments for developing leaders. Stretches people to try new skills and accept new levels of responsibility.
