Role Overview This is the entry-level leadership position in the Family Services Specialist classification. It handles the most complex cases in Adult/Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, and Foster Care/Adoption. The role operates with a high degree of independence, seeking supervisory input only in unusually difficult situations. Key Responsibilities Manage complex, high-difficulty social work cases across CPS, APS, and Foster Care/Adoption programs Provide guidance, mentorship, and consultation to junior staff; act in a supervisory capacity when the supervisor is absent Develop and deliver training for staff, interns, and community professionals; supervise social work interns Conduct home visits, home studies, family partnership meetings, and family finding activities Administer assessments, provide crisis intervention, and develop individualized service plans Provide court testimony and prepare court reports, home studies, and evaluations Coordinate with multi-disciplinary and interagency teams; monitor program compliance and expenditures Provide after-hours on-call coverage and respond to emergencies; participate in emergency shelter setup as needed Qualifications Minimum Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field (or any Bachelor's degree plus 2+ years of relevant human services experience) Experience in a leadership role; considerable experience in the assigned program area BSW/MSW and a Virginia Social Work license are preferred Valid driver's license with a safe driving record required; must reside within a 1-hour commute of Winchester within 90 days Bilingual English-Spanish preferred
