At the heart of the neighborhood, Bayview operates a vibrant and comprehensive community center that provides culturally relevant and responsive educational, social, recreational, and cultural programs and services. Bayview features 130 apartment and townhouse units, providing affordable housing for approximately 450 residents, including nearly 200 children. Programs focus on food access, youth development and education, adult learning and workforce advancement, resource navigation, senior wellness, and arts and culture. Position Summary The Resident Social Worker provides intensive, individualized support services for residents experiencing significant barriers related to trauma, financial hardship, family conflict, behavioral concerns, mental health-related stressors, or complex systems navigation. Working closely with Bayview's Housing Department, Family Support Program, and external service providers, this position helps residents navigate crises, access resources, strengthen day-to-day functioning, and address challenges that may threaten long-term housing success and overall well-being. Residents are typically referred to this role when challenges exceed the scope of general resident support services and require more ongoing intervention, coordination, or crisis response. In addition to stabilization-focused work, the Resident Social Worker will support residents who are preparing for greater financial or housing independence by helping connect them to resources, planning support, and advancement opportunities. Duties and Responsibilities Stabilization and Advancement Services Provide individualized housing stabilization and coordinated support services for residents experiencing significant barriers to stable housing. Work primarily with residents referred by the Housing Department, Family Support Coordinator, or Bayview staff due to elevated needs related to trauma, mental health, family instability, financial hardship, conflict, behavioral concerns, or systems navigation challenges. Provide individualized support, coaching and mentoring to families that aspire to transition to market rate housing, increased financial security and/or advanced educational/career development. Support residents in developing practical skills, routines, and problem-solving strategies that strengthen financial stability, organization, goal-setting, and long-term housing success. Develop evaluation tools and conduct assessments to identify resident strengths, barriers, immediate risks, and service priorities. Develop individualized support plans in collaboration with residents and monitor progress toward goals. Support residents in navigating housing, healthcare, public benefits, school systems, employment, legal resources, and community-based services. Coordinate referrals and communication with mental health providers, schools, healthcare systems, crisis services, domestic violence programs, and other external partners. Provide consistent follow-up, accountability, and ongoing coordination for residents requiring intensive support. Collaborate closely with housing staff to support lease compliance, communication, conflict mitigation, and long-term housing retention. Oversee use of Bayview's benevolence and opportunity funds to ensure families have access to resources and opportunities. Assist with crisis response, de-escalation, and stabilization during periods of acute resident need. Maintain professional boundaries while building effective and supportive working relationships with residents. Well-Being and Support Services Provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive support to residents navigating personal or situational stressors. Support residents in identifying needs, clarifying priorities, and developing practical next steps to improve stability and well-being. Assist residents in connecting to appropriate community-based services, including mental health providers, healthcare, schools, employment supports, domestic violence services, and other specialized resources. Help residents strengthen strategies, skills, and approaches to manage day-to-day challenges. Provide supportive, non-clinical emotional support during periods of stress or transition, with a focus on stabilization and connection to appropriate services when needed. Facilitate occasional groups, workshops, or restorative conversations based on resident-identified needs (e.g., parenting support, stress management, conflict resolution, or community connection). Collaborate with Bayview staff and external partners to ensure coordinated support across systems. Collaboration & Partnerships Coordinate closely with Bayview staff to ensure aligned resident support and clear referral pathways. Participate in cross-department meetings focused on housing stability, resident needs, and service coordination. Maintain necessary and effective communication with staff while respecting confidentiality and role boundaries. Build and maintain relationships with external service providers and partners to support effective referrals. Identify patterns, barriers, and service gaps and communicate them to internal teams. Participate in ongoing training related to housing stabilization and coordinated service delivery. Documentation & Administration Document resident interactions, referrals, support plans, and key updates in a timely and confidential manner. Maintain records needed for coordination of services, continuity of support, and required reporting. Contribute to program reporting and data collection for evaluation and improvement. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Counseling, or related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in social services, supportive housing, care coordination, or related direct service roles supporting individuals or families facing housing instability or complex life challenges. Experience working with individuals and families impacted by trauma, poverty, housing instability, mental health-related stressors, or system involvement. Demonstrated ability to conduct structured assessments, support planning, and coordinated follow-through. Bilingual preferred and/or great comfort conversing with individuals whose primary language is not English. Experience responding to crisis situations, supporting de-escalation, and stabilizing high-need situations. Strong ability to navigate complex systems (housing, benefits, healthcare, education, legal, or related services). Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries in complex service environments. Comfort working collaboratively across internal teams and external service providers. Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Requirements Extensive knowledge and understanding of the intersectionality between social determinants of health and marginalized communities Ability to work in the evenings 1-2 nights per week (desired, but not required) Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with program participants and information Possession of valid driver's license Ability to lift up to 30 pounds Hours and Compensation The Resident Social Worker is a full-time (40 hour/week) salaried position with a salary range of $62,000-$67,000, depending on experience.
