Full Job Description Job Summary:
The K3 Social Emotional Support Specialist's primary responsibility is to work with scholars, staff, and families to enhance the scholars' Social and Emotional Development and Self-Regulation skills. Their goal is to increase the independence of scholars' in identifying and managing their own emotions and actions and for scholars to learn how to engage in positive interactions and relationships with other children and adults.
Essential Functions:
Assist in classroom support as needed and engage with scholars in and out of the classroom Work with specific scholars in small groups or 1:1 to support: Social Emotional skills to build emotional vocabulary and appropriate ways to respond to emotions Self awareness (body, emotions/feelings, sensory input/output needs) Self-regulation strategies Provide a safe space for scholars to de-escalate and work on self-regulation skills Collaborate with MCP3 Director, staff, and families to identify needs and find solutions to best support the child(ren) Assist with determining individualized prevention, replacement, and responding strategies Develop collaborative/consultative relationships with MCP3 staff Support the development and implementation of individualized behavior support plans Assist in the collection of behavioral data and other information for decision making Comply with MCP3 Mission, Values, and Norms Comply with MCP3 policies and procedures Perform other duties as assigned by the K3
Director or Office Manager Professional Competence and Job Knowledge:
Knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of 3-4 year old children Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily classroom activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children Demonstrate ability to relate well with scholars, parents, staff, and manager(s) Knowledge of strategies to support social-emotional development and de-escalation techniques Associates Degree in Early Childhood is preferred or a Bachelor Degree Minimum of two years in an early childhood classroom setting and/or related experience in exceptional student education. Demonstrated experience in providing a variety of appropriate behavior management techniques with students 3-5 years of age. Demonstrated experience in counseling techniques, interpersonal skills, and classroom management strategies. Must have completed or agree to complete additional training: CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse & Neglect, and Abusive Head Trauma (formerly Shaken Baby Syndrome)
