TITLE:
ASSISTANT ATTENDANCE DIRECTOR/SOCIAL WORKER
Division of Student Support Services
QUALIFICATIONS
1) The Assistant Attendance Director will possess a Bachelor's degree from an approved institution in Social Work or related field. 2) Two years or more experience in social work and/or related area. 3) Certification in Attendance and Social Services OR Administration from the West Virginia Department of Education. 4) Ability to understand and interpret attendance laws and proper implementation. 5) Social work license preferred.
REPORTS TO
Attendance and Social Services Director
SUPPORT RELATIONSHIPS
Provide services to the schools by networking with staff, school personnel and the community to plan and deliver social services and attendance needs.
JOB GOAL
To provide attendance and social services and resources for students that enable them to achieve their maximum educational potential with movement towards an appropriate life adjustment; to effectively broaden attitudes of students and parents regarding the values inherent in the social academic processes of the school; to seek to establish and maintain effective communications between school, home and the community.
DEMONSTRATES THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES
1) Ability to support students in efforts to resolve their own problems; 2) The ability to elicit, collect, analyze and interpret information; 3) The ability to develop a problem solving plan from information obtained; 4) Ability to recognize and respect individual differences and cultural backgrounds; 5) Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity; 6) Ability to identify and obtain resources needed to assist others and negotiate between individuals and parents.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Serves as a child advocate to insure that the child's education and child protection rights are observed. 2) Pursues legal measures in accordance with laws of the state of West Virginia as related to attendance. 3) Provides services and individualized and/or group consultation/counseling to student, families and school staff. This includes students groups and adolescent group counseling. 4) Accepts referrals from Department of Exceptional Students and completes social histories for Behavior Disorder placement. 5) Makes home and agency visits for the purpose of gathering and disseminating information. 6) Participates in the development of services which are needed for children in schools and community. 7) Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Attendance and Social Services Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
200 days Salary in accordance with established pay schedule for Assistant Attendance Director
EVALUATION
Performance evaluation in accordance to WIDE policy 5310.
