Counselor-in-Training (CIT)

Clinical Supervisor / Licensed Counselor Position Summary The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) provides direct support services to individuals receiving outpatient treatment for substance use disorders. Under the supervision of a licensed or credentialed counselor, the CIT assists with client assessments, treatment planning, case management, counseling activities, documentation, and recovery support services. This position offers practical clinical experience while working toward certification or licensure requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities conducting intake interviews, screenings, and assessments for clients seeking treatment services. Participate in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans. Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational groups, recovery groups, and skill-building sessions under supervision. Provide individual support and recovery coaching to clients as assigned. Monitor client progress and communicate concerns to the clinical supervisor. Maintain timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation in accordance with agency, state, and federal requirements. Assist clients with referrals to community resources, healthcare providers, housing services, employment services, and other support systems. Participate in case staffing, treatment team meetings, and clinical supervision. Support crisis intervention efforts and follow agency protocols when safety concerns arise. Promote a therapeutic environment that encourages recovery, accountability, and client engagement. Maintain client confidentiality in compliance with
HIPAA, 42 CFR
Part 2, and agency policies. Complete required training and continuing education activities. QualificationsEducation Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Addiction Studies, or a related field preferred. Enrollment in a recognized substance abuse counseling certification, licensure, or training program required. Experience Previous experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders, mental health conditions, or related populations preferred. Internship, practicum, volunteer, or direct care experience is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic understanding of substance use disorders, recovery principles, and evidence-based treatment approaches. Ability to establish rapport with diverse populations. Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of ethical standards and professional boundaries. Proficiency with electronic health records and standard computer applications. Licenses and Certifications Counselor-in-Training (CIT) registration or eligibility as required by state regulations. CPR and First Aid certification preferred. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the workday. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff, and community partners. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Work Environment Outpatient Regular interaction with individuals experiencing substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. May require occasional evening hours to meet client and program needs. Pay:
$16.00 per hour
