As part of the Phoenix Behavioral Health Unit (BHU), the Peer Support Specialist responds, along with a licensed clinician, to individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use concern, via the City of Phoenix 911 Dispatch Center. The individual will need to be professional, friendly, a self-starter, organized, and compassionate. We are currently hiring for a 40-hour Peer Support Specialists for our Crisis Department.

Phoenix, AZ Full-Time Employment Shifts Hours:
Sunday thru Wednesday 7:00am
  • 5:00pm Sunday thru Wednesday 9:00am to 7:00pm Sunday thru Wednesday 10:00am to 8:00pm Wednesday thru Saturday 5:00am
  • 3:00pm Wednesday thru Saturday 7:00am to 5:00pm Wednesday thru Saturday 9:00am to 7:00pm Wednesday thru Saturday 5:00pm to 3:00am Wednesday thru Saturday 8:00pm to 6:00am Shift differentials available: $3 per hour extra for evenings and $4 per hour extra for weekends Bilingual

Utilizing best practices in crisis intervention, the BHU Peer Support Specialist responds to and supports individuals and families in crisis. Your duties would include but are not limited to: Engages in mobile crisis response, brief psychotherapeutic intervention, and immediate treatment/safety planning in a variety of settings including but not limited to public areas, individual residences, and businesses. Works effectively and respectfully with clients, fire department personnel and other first responders, families, health professionals, and all partners involved. Develops short-term crisis management/safety plans with clients or families including having knowledge/understanding of the involuntary petition process. Makes appropriate referrals to other agencies and/or long-term counseling when appropriate. Supports psychiatric hospital placements by providing coordination, planning and facilitation with hospital staff. Maintains client records and completes required documentation in the electronic health record in an accurate and timely manner, Displays flexibility and ability to adapt to change. Qualifications Minimum Requirements :
GED/High school diploma with a minimum of 1.5 years of behavioral health experience, or
  • A bachelor's degree (not in the field of behavioral health) and 1 year of behavioral health experience, or A bachelor's degree in the behavioral health field (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Counseling) Required
  • Peer Certification within 6 months of hire date The applicant must have self-identified, first-hand experience with family members with serious mental illness and/or a chronic disease, utilize a recovery approach and philosophy, be able to liaison between multiple parties, and exemplify great customer service and motivational skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have or be able to attain CPR/First Aid Certification within 60 days of assuming role. Must have a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card (Level 1) or apply for an Arizona fingerprint clearance card within 7 working days of employment Must have valid Arizona driver's license, be (21 years of age) with minimum 4 years driving experience and meet requirements of Terros Health and the City of Phoenix's driving policies. Ability to perform physical duties associated with this role.
