Description Position Overview River Oak Psychiatric Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Mental Health Counselor to join our outpatient team in Lancaster, California. In this full-time role, you will play a crucial part in supporting individuals coping with substance use disorders, guiding them through their recovery journeys with empathy and professionalism. Work Environment You will work in a remote capacity, primarily from the comfort of your home, while also participating in our outpatient office setting as needed. Our team operates within a collaborative and supportive environment, emphasizing teamwork and open communication. While most work will be conducted during standard office hours, Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, some evening shifts may be required to accommodate patient needs. Key Responsibilities Conduct thorough assessments to identify the unique needs and objectives of clients seeking treatment for substance use disorders. Develop personalized treatment plans integrating evidence-based therapeutic modalities, ensuring each client feels supported and engaged in their recovery. Facilitate individual counseling sessions employing motivational interviewing techniques and cognitive-behavioral therapy approaches to nurture self-efficacy in clients. Lead group therapy sessions, creating a safe and inclusive space for clients to share experiences and support one another in the recovery process. Collaborate closely with psychiatrists and addiction specialists, ensuring seamless integration of care and addressing any co-occurring mental health issues. Provide immediate crisis intervention and support during substance-related emergencies to safeguard client welfare. Educate clients and their families about the nature of addiction, effective recovery strategies, and available community resources for ongoing support. Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely documentation of all client interactions and treatment plans in compliance with ethical standards and legal requirements. Actively participate in team meetings, case consultations, and ongoing professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge. Stay informed about the latest research and advancements in substance use treatment to ensure best practices are followed. Patient Population / Client Focus Your focus will primarily be on clients grappling with substance use disorders, ranging from mild to severe dependencies. Many of these individuals may also be dealing with concurrent mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression, which require a multifaceted treatment approach. Our center values cultural competence and actively works to ensure that care is sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of our patients. Qualifications A Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution. Current and valid licensure as an LCSW, LPCC, or LMFT in California. Demonstrated expertise in substance use treatment, with a strong understanding of evidence-based therapeutic models. Proven experience delivering effective individual and group therapy in the context of addiction treatment. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, complemented by a non-judgmental and compassionate approach. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and ensure patient confidentiality while upholding ethical standards. Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and proficiency in various computer applications. A collaborative spirit capable of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Preferred Experience Prior experience in a substance use disorder treatment setting is highly desirable. Familiarity with relapse prevention planning and community intervention strategies. Experience facilitating leadership-focused workshops or support groups. Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive salary range of $100,000 to $120,000 per year, complemented by performance-based bonuses.
