UPA serves a diverse population of 7th through 12th-grade students, most of whom reside in Santa Clara County. UPA's campus is easily accessible, located off Highway 87 at Curtner Avenue. The campus is located across the street from a light rail station and local bus station. This strategic location enables UPA to draw students from school districts throughout Santa Clara County. UPA is a college preparatory alternative for those students who are not performing to their potential and get lost in traditional large middle and high school settings. Job Summary Job Summary Mental Health Counselor - Job Description Position Summary The Mental Health Counselor provides direct therapeutic support to students through individual and group counseling services. This role is integral to the development and implementation of IEP-related mental health goals, crisis intervention, and overall student wellness. The counselor collaborates with educators, families, administrators, and community organizations to promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment that meets the diverse emotional and behavioral needs of students. 1. Counseling Services (Individual and Group) Manage a student caseload as assigned by the Mental Health Coordinator, ensuring consistent and effective support for each student's needs. Provide weekly counseling services for students enrolled in the Emotional and/or Health-Related Mental Services (EHRMS) program. Services must align with the requirements outlined in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), with strict adherence to mandated service minutes. Support students in achieving IEP social-emotional goals, collaborating with the IEP team to deliver targeted interventions that promote emotional growth, self-regulation, and school success. Lead group counseling sessions that address data-informed student needs. Topics may include, but are not limited to, coping skills, stress and anxiety management, self-care practices, peer relationships, and emotional resilience. 2. Documentation, Reporting, and Data Collection Maintain accurate and timely records of all counseling services, including crisis assessments, session notes, attendance, and participation, in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines. Utilize school data systems and electronic health records to document services, monitor progress, and generate required reports. Contribute to program development by providing actionable feedback and recommendations, informed by direct service experience.
