Position Overview The Crisis Walk-In & Withdrawal Management Clinician provides immediate, in-person behavioral health and substance use crisis assessment, stabilization, and clinical intervention for individuals presenting voluntarily or under mental health or substance-related holds. This role functions as a clinical leader on shift, supporting both psychiatric crisis care and ASAM-aligned withdrawal management services. Clinicians work within a multidisciplinary crisis team and provide clinical decision-making, risk assessment, and evidence-based interventions, including brief suicide prevention and substance use interventions. This role also supports transitions to higher or lower levels of care, including inpatient, withdrawal management, residential, and community-based services. This position reports to a licensed clinical supervisor and requires on-site presence at the Crisis Walk-In Center. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive crisis behavioral health assessments, including suicide risk, violence risk, and substance use severity. Determine clinical appropriateness for withdrawal management services using ASAM 4th Edition multidimensional assessment. Provide crisis stabilization interventions, including mental health holds, de-escalation, brief therapy, and substance use interventions. Develop integrated clinical formulations, safety plans, and stabilization plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Utilize evidence-based practices, including Brief CBT for Suicide Prevention (BCBT), motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care. Collaborate with medical staff, SUD counselors, behavioral health technicians, emergency departments, detox facilities, and community partners. Coordinate transitions to ongoing care, including inpatient psychiatric, residential, outpatient, ACT, CSP, or in-home services. Provide clinical oversight and consultation to Behavioral Health Technicians during shifts. Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation supporting safety, regulatory requirements, and reimbursement. Participate in Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI) responses as needed. Engage in reflective supervision, training, and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications Education:
Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or related field (required).
Licensure:
Within one month of employment must obtain a preliminary clinical license. Provisional (LPCC, LSW, LMFTC, etc.) Fully Licensed (LPC, LCSW, LMFT) All licenses must stay up to date and valid during employment. Experience in crisis stabilization, acute behavioral health, emergency services, or substance use treatment. Strong working knowledge of ASAM criteria, withdrawal management levels, and co-occurring disorders. Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-acuity environments. Knowledge of
HIPAA, 42 CFR
Part 2, and confidentiality standards. Strong clinical judgment, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills. Commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and trauma-informed care.
Language Skills:
Bilingual or multilingual skills highly valued
Other Requirements:
Valid driver's license, auto insurance, willingness to travel to homes/communities. Requires living in or near the location of the posting.
