Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Family Support Specialist within the Urgent Crisis Center provides direct support and service coordination to families of children and youth evaluated at the UCC. The Family Support Specialist utilizes strength-based, family-driven, youth-guided, culturally responsive principles to develop individualized engagement and support to families. The purpose of Family Support Specialist is to ensure that youth and parents/caregivers have a supportive experience within the clinic. The Family Support Specialist engages with the family from the time they walk in the door and guides them through the evaluation and discharge planning at the Urgent Crisis Center.SCHEDULE
The program is specifically seeking a candidate available to work Monday to Friday, 4p-12a, or Tuesday to Friday, 4p-12a and Saturday 10a-6p. Must have the ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality of both agency and client matters. Must understand and be able to display the clinical knowledge and expertise necessary to perform crisis intervention. Must be able to display knowledge and expertise as it relates to the populations served by Wellmore, including bilingual and bicultural needs. Must be capable of working as a part of a team and be able to effectively communicate with both families and professionals (in writing and verbally). Must have comfort with navigating and documenting within an electronic health records and use communication platforms, such as Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the UCC program. Must be able to display an understanding of the diverse cultural communities prominent in greater Waterbury, Danbury and Torrington communities. Working knowledge of the greater Waterbury/Danbury/Torrington areas is preferred. Bi-lingual (Spanish-English) is preferred.Education and Experience:
The Family Support Specialist holds a bachelor's degree in a human service field (e.g., social work, marriage and family therapy, counseling, or psychology, etc.). Persons with a degree in an unrelated field or without a college degree may be considered if they have at least 3 years' experience working with families and knowledgeable about community resources and services preferred. The Family Support Specialist must have the skills necessary to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of the families to be served by the program. Bi-lingual (Spanish English) may be required. Experience with advocacy, special education services and policies, and work with children and families is preferred. Parents of their own special needs' children are encouraged to apply.
