A Mental or Behavioral Health Counselor works with patients to treat mental health problems. Assesses patients and assists with diagnosis, counseling and crisis intervention. Consults with nurses, doctors and psychiatrists. May work with specific populations, such as youth, senior citizens or substance abusers, in group settings, facilities or hospitals.
The Primary Therapist is responsible for performing client care activities as directed by the attending physician, Clinical Director & Treatment Team. They will provide group therapy and individual counseling. Collaborates with the Treatment Team in the formulation of the Treatment Plan and assists in coordinating discharge planning. The Primary Therapist works within the facilities policies and procedures and in accordance with the standards of the State and Federal regulations.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Actively participates in Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan meetings. Shares information with team as obtained from client's family, or others. Attends daily and weekly staffing meetings per schedule. Evaluates the impact of therapeutic interventions. Facilitates group therapy and documents accordingly. Performs individual therapy with client/family. Documents the assessment of progress including weekly clinical progress notes. Communicates effectively with client, staff and physician. Provides clients with education and instruction. Attends and participates in daily Program Staff meeting as scheduled. Adheres to policies and procedures. Completes intake assessments including but not limited to biopsychosocial, trauma screening, and suicide risk assessments. Completes outcome measurement assessments. Develop and document treatment plans. Actively participates in supervision with the clinical director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Preferred graduate from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a master's degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or health-related field. Associates in substance use counseling.
Preferred Licensure:
A Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor 1(LADC-1) , A Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC-II), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), or License Eligible. Knowledge and experience in counseling and case management with substance abuse clients. Ability to prepare, implement, and analyze treatment plans and psychiatric reports. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, establishing, and maintaining effective working relationships, gaining cooperation, and resolving conflicts. Ability to plan and organize case workload, manage deadlines of him/herself. Ability to maintain and demonstrate ethical professional standards and demeanor, including the confidentiality of employee and client data, client boundaries, and other sensitive information. Demonstrated competence with, and continued commitment to respect for cultural differences and diversity, protecting client rights. Recognition of the limits of one's own professional expertise and the willingness to seek supervision and/or support, as needed. Makes clinical and organizational decisions with the clients' and agency well-being and best interests in mind. Provide treatment that promotes client dignity, independence, individuality, strength, privacy, and choice, recognizing the unique needs of the client population served by the agency. Provide the behavioral health services that the agency is authorized to provide and that the staff member is qualified to provide. Recognize obvious symptoms of a mental disorder, personality disorder, or substance abuse. Identify types of medications commonly prescribed for mental disorders, personality disorders and substance abuse, and the common side effects and adverse reactions to medications. Recognize, prevent, and respond to a situation in which the client may be a danger to himself or others, behaves in an aggressive or destructive manner, is experiencing a crisis or medical emergency. Recognize and respond to fire, disaster, hazard, and medical emergency. Has completed all the requirements above and is documented in application in training including the ability to pass background checks required by East Coast Recovery.

Pay:
$65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
