POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently recruiting a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). This part-time position pays $35.88 an hour and is in Gaithersburg, MD. This role supports the Training & Education Division (TED) within the Montgomery County Police Department's Public Safety Training Academy and focuses on integrating mental health, wellness, and resiliency programming into training initiatives for public safety personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assess and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of Public Safety Health & Wellness Institute initiatives.
- Identify and implement opportunities to integrate health, wellness, and resiliency concepts into training programs.
- Promote proactive mental health support, resilience, and well-being among law enforcement and public safety personnel.
- Provide specialized support related to trauma, stress, burnout, and other first responder-specific challenges.
- Integrate individual, group, and peer support services into training environments to reduce stigma around mental health.
- Support development of wellness-focused competencies across training and education programs.
- Ensure wellness principles are embedded into all TED learning experiences and curriculum.
- Conduct research and evaluate training outcomes; recommend program improvements.
- Deliver professional development and wellness programming for department staff.
- Stay current on emerging research and trends in public safety mental health and wellness.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and sustain wellness initiatives.
- Maintain appropriate clinical boundaries and refer individuals to higher levels of care when necessary.
- Navigate sensitive situations with professionalism, sound judgment, and adaptability.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently; must be self-motivated.
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
- Ability to build credibility and rapport with law enforcement personnel.
- Strong understanding of trauma, resilience, stress management, and burnout prevention in public safety environments.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while demonstrating empathy and care.
- Ability to understand and ad to the duties, methods, and procedures required by the position.
Education and Experience:
- Active Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) license required.
- Experience working with law enforcement, fire, EMS, military, or public safety populations required.
- Experience in training, curriculum development, instructional systems design (ISD), or facilitation required.
- High School diploma required.
- Experience supporting organizational wellness initiatives preferred.
- Research or program evaluation experience preferred.
- Advanced degree in counseling, psychology, or related field strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Standard hours of work are within Monday through Friday with flexible scheduling options
- Limited travel may be required; optional ride-alongs may be available but are not required.
