Job Description

Job Title:
Transitional Housing & Recovery Specialist Position Summary The Transitional Housing & Recovery Specialist provides direct supervision, structured support, and recovery-focused guidance for residents in a transitional housing and reentry program. This role promotes public safety, accountability, and successful community reintegration while supporting individuals with histories of substance use, mental health challenges, and justice involvement. Services are delivered using a trauma-informed, person-centered, and recovery-oriented approach within a safe and structured residential environment. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervision, Compliance & Accountability Monitor resident compliance with housing rules, curfews, and supervision requirements Conduct routine headcounts, room checks, and facility rounds Enforce program rules consistently, fairly, and professionally Document and report violations, absconding, and safety concerns within required timelines Maintain professional communication with Probation/Parole officers and DOC representatives as needed Resident Support & Recovery Services Provide trauma-informed, person-centered, and recovery-oriented support to residents Build supportive, professional relationships that reinforce accountability, pro-social behavior, and positive decision-making Encourage participation in substance use treatment, mental health services, and recovery supports Assist residents in setting and achieving personal goals, including employment, education, wellness, and independent living Facilitate or assist with life skills and recovery-focused groups (coping skills, relapse prevention, wellness) Safety, Security & Incident Response Maintain a safe, structured, and recovery-supportive residential environment Respond to emergencies and critical incidents using approved de-escalation techniques Identify and respond to signs of relapse, substance use, or behavioral escalation Follow all emergency protocols and safety procedures Complete accurate incident reports within required timelines Documentation & Confidentiality Maintain accurate and timely shift notes, logs, and incident reports Track resident progress, participation, and compliance Document any substance use-related concerns or violations according to agency and DOC policies Protect confidential information in accordance with HIPAA, DOC, and agency policies Quality Assurance & Training Complete all required trainings, including CARF, DOC, substance use, and agency-specific requirements Participate in audits, monitoring visits, and continuous quality improvement efforts Ethical Conduct & Professionalism Maintain professional boundaries with residents at all times Adhere to agency code of ethics and DOC conduct standards Demonstrate integrity, fairness, and accountability in all interactions QualificationsRequired High school diploma or GED Experience in reentry, residential programs, corrections, behavioral health, or substance use services Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to enforce rules consistently while providing supportive, recovery-oriented care Preferred Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, or related field Experience working with justice-involved individuals and/or individuals in recovery Knowledge of CARF standards, DOC contracts, and substance use recovery principles CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Performance Expectations 100% completion of required compliance checks, rounds, and supervision duties Timely, accurate documentation with ≥95% audit compliance Active support of resident recovery goals and program participation Zero substantiated confidentiality or ethical violations Completion of all required trainings within designated timeframes Professional, timely communication with DOC and Probation/Parole partners Work Schedule & Conditions This position requires shift work in a residential housing environment and may include evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Staff must be able to manage challenging behaviors, respond to crises (including substance use-related incidents), and maintain composure in high-stress situations. Staff are expected to uphold dignity, promote responsibility, and empower residents to achieve lasting stability and sobriety.
Pay:
$12.00 - $13.00 per hour Shift availability: Overnight Shift (Required) Day Shift (Preferred) Willingness to travel: 25% (Preferred)
