Counselor—RSEC Academy 2026-2027
School Year Location:
Amherst, New Hampshire Full-time 190 days About RSEC Academy RSEC Academy is a small therapeutic alternative school serving students with educational disabilities across Southern New Hampshire. With a maximum capacity of 36 students, we foster a supportive, collaborative learning community where our experienced team provides individualized, evidence-based support. We serve families and students from more than 20 communities, offering a meaningful alternative for students who benefit from a smaller, more structured academic and social environment. About the Role RSEC Academy seeks a Counselor to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. You will provide direct mental health services—individually and in groups—to assigned students while managing crises when they arise, developing IEP goals and objectives, and maintaining strong partnerships with families and school districts. This is a position for a licensed mental health professional committed to student growth, evidence-based practice, and collaborative teamwork. Key Responsibilities Direct Services & Counseling
  • Provide individual and group counseling to the assigned student caseload
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions tailored to student needs and IEP goals
  • Assess student mental health, emotional, and behavioral concerns Crisis Management & Support
  • Respond to and de-escalate crises using evidence-based intervention strategies
  • Develop and implement crisis prevention and management plans
  • Maintain student and staff safety during challenging moments IEP Development & Monitoring
  • Write IEP goals and objectives aligned to your area(s) of expertise
  • Contribute to Individualized Education Plan development and review meetings
  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and adjust interventions as needed
  • Maintain thorough, timely clinical documentation Collaboration & Communication
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families regarding student progress and concerns
  • Collaborate with special education and general education staff
  • Coordinate with sending school districts on case management and student transitions
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development activities
  • Support the school's inclusive, trauma-informed approach to student support Qualifications Required
  • Current licensure, certification, or recognized credential in a mental health field (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of special education, including learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and mental health needs
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direct mental health services to adolescents
  • Experience with crisis de-escalation and intervention
  • Proficiency with Google Suite
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small, tight-knit team environment Preferred
  • Experience in a therapeutic or special education school setting
  • Training in trauma-informed care or evidence-based counseling modalities
  • Experience with IEP development and special education compliance
