Overview Join our dynamic educational team as a School-based Counselor, where you will play a vital role in supporting students' mental health, emotional well-being, and overall development within the school environment. You will collaborate closely with teachers, families, and community resources to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school climate that promotes student success. Duties Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to identify students' mental health needs and develop tailored treatment plans. Provide individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment-based therapy for children, and trauma-informed care. Facilitate social work interventions, crisis management, and crisis intervention to support students facing emotional or behavioral challenges. Implement behavioral health strategies including behavior management and conflict management to promote positive student behaviors. Collaborate with families, teachers, and school staff to coordinate case management efforts and ensure holistic support for students with disabilities or developmental disabilities. Maintain accurate clinical documentation standards using social work documentation tools and adhere to HIPAA regulations for medical records and confidentiality. Engage in diagnostic evaluation processes for mental health conditions such as PTSD or autism spectrum disorder, ensuring compliance with medical terminology and data collection protocols. Requirements Masters Degree in counseling, current license (LPC-PCC) in Ohio Proven experience working with children and adolescents in a school setting or similar environment. Strong knowledge of adolescent development, child & family counseling, and evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. Familiarity with medical documentation standards, HIPAA compliance, and medical terminology related to mental health care. Ability to manage crisis situations effectively through crisis management skills and trauma-informed care techniques. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills for working with diverse populations including culturally diverse students and families.
