A Mental or Behavioral Health Counselor works with patients to treat mental health problems. Assesses patients and assists with diagnosis, counseling and crisis intervention. Consults with nurses, doctors and psychiatrists. May work with specific populations, such as youth, senior citizens or substance abusers, in group settings, facilities or hospitals.
The Detox Counselor provides clinical counseling services, supports individualized treatment planning, and assists clients throughout the detoxification process. Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, this position is responsible for conducting counseling sessions, completing clinical documentation, coordinating care, and ensuring clients receive appropriate treatment based on ASAM standards. The Detox Counselor works collaboratively with the clinical, medical, and utilization review teams to support client recovery, continuity of care, and successful transitions to the appropriate level of treatment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow and implement SpiritLife policies and procedures. Assist with maintaining compliance with state licensing requirements, federal regulations, and reporting requirements. Support the leadership team with ASAM alignment and clinical policy implementation. Complete daily level of care assessments utilizing ASAM criteria to determine continued appropriateness of the 3.7WM level of care. Complete continuing care, transition of care, and discharge reviews with funding sources using ASAM criteria. Collaborate with utilization review, clinical, and medical teams to coordinate appropriate transitions to higher or lower levels of care. Provide individual counseling, group therapy, and educational sessions for clients. Facilitate process groups, one-on-one sessions, and family sessions as needed. Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans, progress notes, case notes, and care coordination documentation. Ensure clinical documentation is completed accurately and timely within client charts, including treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, aftercare plans, group notes, and assessments. Conduct regular chart audits to ensure accuracy and compliance of clinical records. Coordinate referrals to mental health and substance use treatment providers for continued care. Participate as an active member of the integrated treatment team, including daily team meetings, weekly clinical meetings, and review of detox reports. Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for clients. Attend required trainings and maintain knowledge of current treatment practices and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Knowledge of ASAM criteria, ICD-10, DSM-5, HIPAA regulations, and Pennsylvania confidentiality laws. Strong understanding of substance use disorders and behavioral health treatment practices. Ability to complete clinical documentation accurately and efficiently. Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other computer systems. Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Education/Experience:
Master's Degree or Above in Relevant Field Master's degree or higher from an accredited college in one of the following fields: Chemical Dependency Psychology Social Work Counseling Nursing (with a clinical specialty in human services) Degree must include a practicum in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. OR Bachelor's Degree and Clinical Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in one of the following fields: Chemical Dependency Psychology Social Work Counseling Nursing (with a clinical specialty in human services) Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. OR Associate's Degree and Clinical Experience Associate's degree from an accredited college in one of the following fields: Chemical Dependency Psychology Social Work Counseling Nursing (with a clinical specialty in human services) Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. OR Registered Nurse Licensure Current Registered Nurse license. Degree from an accredited school of nursing. Minimum of 1 year of counseling experience in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. OR Addictions Counselor Certification Full certification as an addictions counselor through a statewide certification body that is a member of a national certification body or certification through another state government's substance abuse counseling certification board.
Pay:
$19.25 - $23.00 per hour
