Behavioral Health Assessor

Work hours:
PRN (As Needed) Department highlights:- No on-call or after hour duties required

- Master's Degree in a Mental health related field is required Experience
- 2 years related experience is required
- Experience working in a Behavioral Health Hospital preferred
- Experience with Behavioral Health Intake/Assessments preferred
- Cadence scheduling experience is preferred Licenses and Certifications
- LPC
- Licensed Professional Counselor is required upon hire or
- LPC-A
- Licensed Professional Counselor Associate upon hire or
- LMFT
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist is required upon hire or
- LMSW
- Licensed Master Social Worker upon hire or
- LCSW
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker is required upon hire and
- CPI
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Training is required upon hire What You Will Do
- Completes preadmission screening and referral services for behavioral health patients including psychiatric and chemically dependent patients in various locations and means including virtual, Behavioral Health Facilities, outpatient clinics locations, facility units, outpatient surgical facilities and emergency departments
- Obtains detailed history and documents using guided data collection forms.
- Documents legibly and thoroughly.
- Formulates provisional DSM diagnoses.
- Establishes patient rapport and trust.
- Obtains appropriate consents.
- Educates patient/family regarding process.
- Seeks supervision as needed. Works under orders of attending or emergency department physician.
- Knowledge of data elements required to assess all age groups and patient types excluding neonates.
- Uses assessment tools including but not limited to video and phone assessment tools.
- Manages time in assessments and location appropriate to practice, needs of patient, and organizational needs.
- Understands and complies with all regulations including but not limited to TDMHMR, TDH, CMS, EMTALA, and Texas Behavioral Health Marketing Act.
- Educates patient/family and team members regarding regulations as indicated. Understands legal statues relevant to voluntary and involuntary patients including warrantless detentions, warrants, OPCs and commitments. Is able to facilitate court order paperwork. Understands various forms and documents appropriately.
- Recommends levels of care and discharge plans. Understands admission criteria for various levels of care.
- Knowledge of community resources including public and private resources for both psychiatric and chemically dependent patients. Communicates pertinent data to receiving provider and obtains patient consents as legally required, supports continuity of care.
- Assists with patient flow functions when directed/needed.
- Collaborates/communicates/establishes credibility with facility staff, ED physician, admitting and consulting physician, and all members of care team. Seeks supervision as needed.
- Completes other work as assigned by leadership. Including but not limited to collaborative workgroups, strategic initiatives, and assisting in other areas of behavioral health service line. Additional perks of being a Texas Health employee:
