ABOUT THE REFINERY PROJECT

The Refinery Project, LLC is a Colorado behavioral health provider delivering outpatient substance use and co-occurring disorder services through a combination of community-based outreach and in-house, facility-based programming. We serve clients referred through partner programs as well as members of the broader community, and we operate in compliance with the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) Provider Rules at 2 CCR 502-1. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Refinery Project is seeking a Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) to provide addiction counseling services to the full range of Refinery clients — including individuals engaged through community outreach and clients enrolled in our in-house, facility-based programs. This is a part-time or full-time independent contractor (1099) role for professionals who hold an active CAS credential and are prepared to deliver individual and group addiction counseling, assessments, and treatment planning within their certified scope of practice. Schedule and site assignment are flexible and will vary based on client load and program need across Refinery's outreach and facility settings. Required clinical supervision or consultation is arranged by The Refinery Project in accordance with the rules of the Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide individual and group addiction counseling to Refinery clients across both community outreach and in-house facility-based programs Conduct substance use assessments and biopsychosocial intakes within the CAS scope of practice and in accordance with program protocols Develop, implement, and maintain individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and Refinery clinical staff Participate in required clinical supervision or consultation as arranged by The Refinery Project, maintaining documentation as required for CAS credential renewal Collaborate with Certified Peer Coaches, QBHAs, and the Clinical Director across programs to ensure coordinated, whole-person care for all client types Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation consistent with 2 CCR 502-1, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and applicable Colorado Medicaid (HCPF) documentation standards Represent Refinery professionally during scheduled community outreach engagement activities May supervise Certified Addiction Technician (CAT)-level counselors where assigned by the Clinical Director, consistent with CAS scope of practice Transport clients as needed using a personal vehicle in accordance with Refinery's vehicle use and client transportation policy, where applicable to the assigned program Participate in team meetings, required trainings, and Quality Improvement activities as directed Maintain professional and ethical boundaries consistent with Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners standards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Active Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) credential in good standing, issued by the Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners (DORA) under C.R.S. § 12-245-804 and 4 CCR 744-1 Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health concentration or human services equivalent field, consistent with CAS education requirements Completion of the BHA-approved CAS training curriculum and passage of the NCAC II examination and Colorado jurisprudence examination Clear Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) criminal history background check and DORA disciplinary record check, consistent with 2 CCR 502-1, Section 21.160.2 Ability and willingness to work with clients across both community outreach settings and in-house facility-based programs Knowledge of substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and recovery-oriented, evidence-based treatment approaches Valid Colorado driver's license and reliable personal transportation, for roles that include client transportation Commitment to ethical practice and ongoing compliance with Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners requirements, including Continuing Professional Competency (CPC), throughout the contract period

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience providing individual or group addiction counseling in an outpatient, community behavioral health, or residential/facility-based setting Familiarity with ASAM criteria and biopsychosocial assessment processes Training or experience in evidence-based modalities such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Prior experience supervising Certified Addiction Technicians (CATs) or supporting paraprofessional staff Lived experience with substance use disorder and personal recovery (valued but not required) Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

CLINICAL SUPERVISION & SCOPE OF PRACTICE

Under Colorado law, a CAS practices addiction counseling under supervision or consultation as required by Board rule and may supervise Certified Addiction Technician (CAT)-level counselors. The Refinery Project arranges required clinical supervision or consultation for CAS contractors. The contractor remains responsible for confirming that the supervision or consultation arrangement satisfies the requirements of the Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners, including the 40 Professional Development Hours (PDH) required every two years to maintain CAS certification. CAS contractors provide services strictly within their certified scope of practice and do not diagnose or provide services reserved for licensed clinicians (LAC, LPC, LCSW) unless separately credentialed to do so.

COMPENSATION

In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (C.R.S. § 8-5-101 et seq.), the compensation for this position is disclosed as follows:

Rate:

$25 per individual session / $75 per group facilitation Schedule and session volume will vary based on client load and program need across outreach and facility-based assignments. Specific rate to be confirmed prior to posting.

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR STATUS

This is an independent contractor (1099) position. The contractor is not classified as an employee of The Refinery Project, LLC and is solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local tax obligations. This position does not include employee benefits, paid time off, unemployment insurance, or employment protections applicable to employees under Colorado or federal law. All CAS contractors must maintain an active CAS credential in good standing, a completed Independent Contractor Agreement, and all required onboarding documentation described in Refinery's Contractor Policies & Procedures Manual throughout the duration of the contract.
