Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Child Peer Specialist with 2-3 years of experience working with children/adolescents with MH and/or SUD experience to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and adolescents facing mental health challenges. In this role, you will serve as a relatable and empathetic peer supporter, leveraging your personal recovery experience to inspire hope, foster resilience, and promote healing. You will work closely with youth, families, and multidisciplinary teams to provide peer support, crisis intervention, and recovery coaching in a culturally sensitive manner. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to empower young individuals on their journey toward wellness and recovery. Responsibilities Build trusting relationships with children and adolescents by sharing personal recovery stories and demonstrating genuine empathy. Provide peer support advocacy, guiding youth through mental health challenges with motivational interviewing and harm reduction strategies. Assist clients in developing coping skills, setting goals, and navigating mental health services with culturally competent communication. Respond promptly to crisis situations using crisis management techniques, ensuring safety for all involved. Collaborate with clinical teams to coordinate care plans that address co-occurring disorders such as substance use and mental health conditions. Maintain strict confidentiality of client information while documenting interactions accurately in compliance with privacy regulations. Support clients in practicing behavioral health strategies, including addiction counseling and social work principles, to promote recovery and resilience. Develop PDP and complete monthly reports Visit with assigned youth , minimum of 6-8 hrs per week with the other other 6-4 hr of face to face/administrative hrs. Skills Strong understanding of crisis intervention methods and crisis management protocols. Experience working within behavioral health settings or with individuals experiencing mental health conditions. Knowledge of addiction counseling, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and recovery peer support principles. Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse communities, demonstrating cultural competence and sensitivity. Excellent client communication skills—active listening, empathy, and clear articulation of support strategies. Proven mentoring skills with the ability to share personal recovery experiences responsibly to inspire hope. Familiarity with social work practices, confidentiality standards, and working with individuals with co-occurring disorders or substance use issues.
