A Mental or Behavioral Health Counselor works with patients to treat mental health problems. Assesses patients and assists with diagnosis, counseling and crisis intervention. Consults with nurses, doctors and psychiatrists. May work with specific populations, such as youth, senior citizens or substance abusers, in group settings, facilities or hospitals.
CAYA Clinic in Madison, WI is currently seeking a Mental Health & Substance Use Counselor to join our team of passionate harm reduction psychotherapists. CAYA Clinic provides affordable treatment options for people who use drugs that would like to use safer, moderate their use, change their relationship with substances, or receive mental health, eating disorder, or trauma therapies with no abstinence requirements.
Mission:
To meet people who use drugs in Wisconsin where they are and utilize evidence-based harm reduction therapy techniques to reduce drug-related harms, prevent overdose, and promote the empowerment of people who use drugs. All participants will have access to harm reduction supplies in addition to therapy. CAYA has a special emphasis on serving historically marginalized communities.

Position Summary:
The counselor provides assessment, intake, treatment planning, individual counseling, facilitates group therapy, keeps files per
DHS 75.5
requirements. Works with a multidisciplinary treatment team consisting of Clinical Director, Director of Operations, Mental Health Counselors, and Substance Use Counselors to meet the clinical needs of each and every client. We are looking for a compassionate, caring, and passionate harm reduction psychotherapist. We do offer clinical supervision and education towards receiving your mental health and substance use certification/licensure!
Principal functions:
1. Working with clients to complete intake, admission, discharge, and transfer paperwork 2. Documenting client process through counseling 3. Coordinating and cooperating with local agencies and organizations necessary to aid treatment for each client and providing referrals for services needed 4. Performing individual and/or group counseling 5. Assist and empower clients to file grievances and complaints 6. Educate clients on current drug trends and steps they can take to keep themselves and each other safe. Provide harm reduction supplies to all clients. 7. Obtaining and maintaining proper licensures and/ or certifications according to state requirements 8. Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and policies. 8. Performing other tasks assigned by the Program Directors 9. Identifies any clinical/case management needs and works to address those needs. 10. Performs direct one-on-one client contact per week through individual or group counseling. 11. Attend supervision as necessary for licensure. 12. Always acts in the best interests of the client, as the client defines this.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Licensure, and Certification:
Candidates must possess either a Master's degree with full licensure as an LPC, LMFT, or LCSW, or a Bachelor's degree paired with a valid SAC or CSAC credential.
Experience Required:
Some experience in substance use and/or mental health preferred
Skill and Ability:
Necessary to have great interpersonal and communication skills, be able to multitask, prioritize, be dependable and reliable, work in a fast-paced environment, and be able to work well with others. Have a deep commitment to social justice and the empowerment of people who use drugs.
