Full Job Description Primary Purpose:
Provide counseling and behavioral support services for special education students and staff. Serve as a liaison between district/school and parents/community. Support teachers and staff and collaborate with parents to promote student success in the educational environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Psychology, Behavior Analysis, Counseling, Social Work, or related field Valid Texas teaching certificate, LPC, LMSW, or related certification preferred Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of behavior management strategies and positive behavioral supports Understanding of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) Knowledge of IDEA, special education procedures, and ARD/IEP processes Knowledge of community support services Ability to collect and analyze behavioral data Strong consultation and collaboration skills Ability to train and support teachers and paraprofessionals Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience Experience working with students with emotional/behavioral disorders or significant behavioral needs preferred Experience in a school/educational setting preferred Crisis prevention intervention training preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Student Support and Behavioral Services Provide group and individual counseling and social skills instruction. Monitor and document student progress on behavior and social-emotional goals. Assist with behavior assessments and develop/implement individual behavior plans. Collect and analyze behavioral data to evaluate effectiveness of interventions and adjust supports as needed. Provide crisis intervention and support for students with intensive behavioral needs. Support student transition planning, as appropriate. Consultation, Collaboration & Family Engagement Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, and staff to address student behavioral and social-emotional needs. Provide coaching and support to teachers and staff on behavior strategies and implementation of behavior plans. Model effective behavior intervention strategies in classroom settings. Participate in ARD/IEP committees to provide data and recommendations regarding behavioral supports. Serve as the special education liaison for the district behavior program Serve as the district's Parent-Community Liaison, providing parent training, resources, and ongoing communication regarding student progress. Maintain a database of community agencies and resources to support student and family needs. Program Development & Support Develop and implement a mentor program for special education students. Support campuses in implementing proactive and preventative behavior strategies. Collaborate with district staff to strengthen behavior support practices. Documentation & Compliance Maintain documentation related to behavioral supports, interventions, and student progress. Ensure practices align with district policies, state regulations, and special education requirements. Other Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Cooperate with other staff members in promoting a positive organizational climate. Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations. Adhere to the district's safety policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business. Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance. Other duties as assigned.
