Sea Mar's network of services includes more than 90 medical, dental, and behavioral health clinics and a wide variety of nutritional, social, and educational services. We are recruiting for the following position: Sea Mar is a mandatory COVID-19 and flu vaccine organization Full time Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) positionavailable at our Puyallup Behavioral Health Clinic. Applicant will beworking with patients suffering from chemical dependency. Applicantsmust have no history of alcohol or drug misuse for a period of twoyears prior to the time of employment. This individual is responsible for providing direct counselingservices to patients. The counselor is the agent for providingservices to patients in a one-to-one or group format, performingassessments, evaluations, and intakes. Services are provided toadults, youth, and their families. Applicant should have demonstratedrapport, empathy for, and ability to communicate with recoverypatients. These clients have a primary diagnosis of chemicaldependency and may also have emerging mental health problems.

Applicants are expected to subscribe to the disease concept ofchemical dependency with the belief that total abstinence is requiredfor ongoing recovery from alcoholism and other drug addiction. Thisjob description does not suggest or imply that these are the onlyduties to be performed by this employee. The person in this positionwill be required to follow other instructions and to perform otherduties as assigned by the supervisor. Counselor will understand theservices at the organization follow a client- centered model withemphasis on integrated care.
EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE
  • Must have an AA degree and must have a Washington State SUDPLicense or Washington State Department of Health.
  • Knowledgeable of a wide variety of therapeutic approaches and theability to set and maintain therapeutic limits. The agency milieumandates that the incumbent be flexible, versatile, and skilled indeveloping creative interventions that modify inappropriate behavior
  • Must have an understanding of the theory and practice of individualand group treatment of substance use clients to facilitate client selfexamination, expression of feelings, insight development, problemsolving, and motivation to develop a chemically free lifestyle
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Ability to type fluently, with excellent grammar and spelling.
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Word and Excel ispreferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have and maintain First Aid and HIV certification.
  • The person in this position shall have no history or evidence ofalcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three (3) yearsimmediately prior to the date of employment at the facility, and nomisuse of alcohol or other drugs while employed at Sea Mar.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
