We take pride in our staff that come to work with us and are seeking a Mental Health Professional with a passion for supporting individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders who are incarcerated. The Jail Mental Health Professional (MHP) works within the Thurston County Corrections Facility (TCCF) to provide brief solution focused therapy, crisis intervention, risk assessments, psychoeducation, case management, individual and group therapy (when available) to individuals in the jail. This position serves as a behavioral health specialist providing consultation to corrections staff and care coordination between the jail, community, and Western State Hospital. Much of the work is independent but you will receive support and guidance from Jail Diversion management and other team members.

Salary Range:

$38.10 - $46.01 per hour DOE. Eligible for Shift Differential ($1/hr evenings, $3/hr weekends)

Schedule:

Wednesday-Saturday, Four 10 hour shifts. Hours can be arranged with supervisor and must span over the hours of 8am-5pm. Benefits

Major Responsibilities Performs mental health screenings and assessments to determine if an individual meets appropriate criteria for behavioral health services. Researches, determines and advocates for possible opportunities and/or referrals to appropriate treatment programs within the jail and in the community. Provides individual brief solution-focused therapy, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, case management, individual and group therapy (when available) to individuals in the jail. Collaborates with the jail classification team to determine appropriate housing for incarcerated individuals. Coordinates with corrections staff and other jail-based service providers for warm-handoff and care coordination. Records EHR (Electronic Health Record) recordkeeping items. Performs related work, special projects, or other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATONS

Master's degree or further advanced degree in counseling or one of the social sciences from an accredited college or university. Meets WA state qualifications to be a Mental Health Professional Qualifies as a Licensed Agency Affiliated Counselor or be licensed in the state by the WA Department of Health as a Social Worker, Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologist or BSN/RN. Dual credentialed Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP or SUDP-T) preferred. Two (2) or more years professional experience providing services to individuals with Behavioral Health or Substance Use Disorders. One (1) year experience providing group treatment. Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the essential job functions may be considered. Experience working with individuals involved with the criminal justice system preferred. Ability to utilize a personal computer with applicable software to successfully perform essential job functions of the position including word processing, spread sheet, analysis, information retrieval, and tracking. Must pass a background check investigation. May be subject to additional background screening criteria as determined by county jail requirements.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to utilize the Recovery Model, Evidence Based Practices, and effectively engage with program participants in individual and group treatment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and/or cultures. Ability to write clear and concise clinical documents, reports, and correspondence. Experience working with community providers and coordination with varied agency partners. Ability to adhere to strict deadlines, including data entry submissions. Ability to foster collaboration and teamwork with program participants, other OHRS staff, Thurston County Corrections Facility staff and outside agencies. Ability to respectfully manage differences, opposing perspectives, opinions and interests. Ability to apply organizational efficiency, and proficiency in prioritizing work assignments. Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to change. Strong critical thinking skills, ability to conceptualize and implement creative solutions. Knowledge of local, state and federal government policy, regulations and decision-making process.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily works in the Thurston County Corrections Facility with occasional travel to local meetings. Service responsibilities vary to ensure coverage each day of the week, including weekend shifts, shared with other members of the treatment team Regular, on site, predictable attendance is required. Moderate physical exertion is required. May be required to sit, stand, squat, walk short to moderate distances on uneven terrain, walk up and down stairs, lift or move boxes/equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
