Program Director/Clinical Supervisor Position Summary The CANS Assessor / Case Manager is responsible for completing Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessments, supporting the authorization process for behavioral health services, and maintaining a small caseload of approximately 4-6 clients. This position ensures assessments, documentation, and prior authorization requests are completed accurately and within required timeframes. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, knowledge of behavioral health services, and the ability to independently manage assigned responsibilities while maintaining compliance with organizational, payer, and regulatory requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities CANS Assessments- Complete initial and reassessment CANS assessments for assigned children and adolescents.
- Conduct interviews with clients, parents/guardians, caregivers, and other relevant individuals as appropriate.
- Gather information necessary to accurately identify the client's needs, strengths, risks, functioning, and available supports.
- Complete CANS documentation accurately and within required timeframes.
- Maintain current CANS certification and complete required training or recertification.
- Coordinate with clinical and case management staff when assessment findings indicate additional needs, risks, or changes in level of care.
- Ensure CANS assessments are entered into all required systems and appropriately maintained in the client's record. Prior Authorizations
- Prepare, submit, and track prior authorization requests for behavioral health services.
- Review clinical documentation to ensure information necessary to support authorization requests is complete and consistent.
- Monitor authorization effective dates, expiration dates, approved units/hours, and other payer requirements.
- Follow up on pending authorization requests and address requests for additional information.
- Communicate authorization approvals, denials, limitations, or other issues to appropriate staff.
- Assist with preventing interruptions in services due to expired or incomplete authorizations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of authorization activity and payer communications. Client Caseload
- Maintain a small caseload of approximately 4-6 clients.
- Provide assigned case management/support services in accordance with each client's treatment/service plan.
- Coordinate services with clients, families, schools, providers, and community resources as appropriate.
- Complete progress notes and other required documentation within established timeframes.
- Monitor client progress and communicate significant changes or concerns to the appropriate clinical or supervisory staff.
- Participate in treatment planning, care coordination, discharge, and transition activities as assigned. Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely client records.
- Follow organizational policies and procedures, payer requirements, confidentiality requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Protect client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
- Participate in supervision, staff meetings, trainings, quality reviews, and audits as required.
- Correct documentation or authorization deficiencies within established timeframes.
- Maintain required credentials, certifications, and training applicable to the position. Qualifications
- Current CANS certification required or ability to obtain certification before independently completing CANS assessments.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and families preferred.
- Experience with behavioral health assessments, case management, utilization management, or prior authorizations preferred.
- Knowledge of Medicaid and managed-care authorization processes preferred.
- Strong written documentation, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and follow authorization requests through completion.
- Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with supervisors and other members of the treatment team.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and other computer-based documentation systems.
Pay:
$23.00- $25.
