Full Job Description Primary Purpose:
To support a program-wide culture that promotes children's social and emotional well-being, to provide supports for effective classroom management and positive learning environments, and to facilitate mental health consultation, including access to resources and services.Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree from an accredited university in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or Counseling Texas School Counselor Certificate or Licensure in one of the following: Licensed Master or Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, or Licensed Specialist in School Psychology Special Knowledge/Skills Clear, effective written and verbal communication Bilingual English/Spanish preferred Strong relationship-building skills Ability to interact with diverse populations of various ages in various settings Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills Knowledge of early childhood development Knowledge of counseling/mental health procedures Proficiency with a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Office productsExperience:
At least five years of experience working with underserved populations and providing family support services At least two years providing direct counseling services or play therapy At least two years of experience in an early childhood setting (infant/toddler/pre-K), including instructing students and managing their behavior Major Responsibilities and Duties Model HCDE and Head Start's mission, vision, and values. Work with interdisciplinary teams to ensure integration and consistent delivery of all Head Start services. Support early identification of children with, or at risk for, mental health challenges; observe classrooms for positive adult-child relationships and engaging environments. Implement systems to ensure timely and effective identification and support of students with social and emotional concerns; motivate parents and staff to try different strategies and approaches. Facilitate the development and implementation of individualized or classrooms strategies and interventions that reflect the skills and strengths of those being served. Build parent and staff capacity to meet the social and emotional needs of young children by providing individual and group training to families and staff on child mental health and appropriate behavior practices. Consult with families and staff to assess their situation and provide guidance and resources accordingly. Develop community partnerships to facilitate access to mental health resources and services.
