Valley Community Services Board is hiring a MH Peer Recovery Specialist in Staunton, VA. This is a full-time position. We are seeking a compassionate and recovery-oriented Peer Recovery Specialist to join our behavioral health team. This position serves as a peer support professional who uses lived experience of recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges to support individuals receiving behavioral health services. The Peer Recovery Specialist provides non-clinical, person-centered support designed to promote hope, self-determination, resiliency, and meaningful recovery. Through shared lived experience, this position helps individuals identify their recovery goals, strengthen natural and community supports, develop practical wellness skills, and successfully navigate behavioral health and community resources. The Peer Recovery Specialist works collaboratively with clinical, case management, and other multidisciplinary team members while ensuring services are trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and consistent with Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), and agency standards. Supports individuals in identifying personal recovery goals and developing recovery-oriented action plans. Uses lived experience appropriately and purposefully to foster hope and demonstrate that recovery is possible. Assists individuals in navigating behavioral health, medical, social service, and community systems. Collaborates with clinical, case management, and other staff as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Provides outreach and follow-up to promote engagement and continuity of care. Assists individuals in identifying and accessing appropriate community resources and natural supports. Accompanies individuals to appointments or community resources when appropriate and within program scope. Completes timely, accurate, and appropriate documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with DBHDS, DMAS, and agency requirements. Maintains required peer certification and completes applicable continuing education requirements.
