Welcome to Reinbeck (Community Page) Little Rebels Learning Center (Facebook Page) The Preschool & Childcare Director is responsible for the overall daily functions and operations of the center. This administrative leadership role encompasses managing all aspects of personnel, business finance, enrollment, policy development, and program implementation. The Director provides and coordinates the support, resources, supervision, and leadership necessary to deliver nurturing care and high-quality education to young children in a safe, compliant, and positive environment. Operating as the leader of a small business, the Director ensures all services align with organizational objectives, community needs, and state licensing requirements while maintaining a visible presence during regular Monday-Friday business hours, with occasional outdoor activities and evening or weekend responsibilities as needed. Essential Functions Regulatory Compliance & Operations Ensure the center strictly meets all Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS / DHS) licensing requirements. Maintain mandatory standards for health, sanitation, nutrition, physical safety, and emergency regulations. Ensure all required regulatory paperwork, enrollment charts, and discharge documentation are completed accurately and filed on time. Oversee facility maintenance and cleanliness, cooperating with maintenance staff to ensure the building remains secure, orderly, and fully compliant. Provide direct care and temporarily serve as a supervising caregiver in classrooms on an as-needed basis to maintain mandated staff-to-child ratios or cover emergency gaps. Personnel Management & Leadership Recruit, interview, hire, and orient qualified, certified staff members. Supervise direct-care staff, cultivate a motivating and inclusive workplace culture, and address personnel or conflict matters in the center's best interest. Build and maintain legally compliant staff schedules that strictly adhere to state-mandated staff-to-child ratios. Conduct regular staff meetings to educate employees on policy updates, safety procedures, and licensure rules. Identify professional development tracks, manage continuing education compliance, and conduct annual performance reviews for all direct reports. Curriculum & Environment Collaborate with educational staff to design, implement, and evaluate high-quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum plans. Foster a welcoming, tolerant culture that respects diverse child and family backgrounds, values, and traditions. Execute positive behavior management plans and structured, safe arrival/departure protocols. Financial & Strategic Management Manage center business finances, establish annual budgets for stakeholder approval, and monitor ongoing compliance. Prepare and deliver comprehensive operational, staffing, enrollment, and financial reports during regular monthly meetings with the Board of Directors. Pursue and execute strategic community partnerships, and engage in fundraising or grant-writing initiatives as needed to support center longevity. Family & Community Relations Establish strong, proactive relationships with client families; respond transparently to parent requests, programmatic questions, and billing or enrollment issues. Equip families with helpful community resources and manage referrals to Area Education Agencies (AEA) for children demonstrating developmental deficits. Enforce a culture of child protection, immediately reporting any evidence of suspected child abuse or neglect to the Iowa Department of Human Services as a mandatory reporter.
