Child-Care Director
LOCATION
The Nest Early Learning Center - Worcester Technical High School
GENERAL JOB DECRIPTION
Child-care directors are responsible for the daily operations of a child-care center, ensure a safe and educational environment for young children, manage teaching staff, ensure prescribed curriculum is being taught, communicate with parents, and uphold the center's reputation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE
Ensure a safe, happy, and stimulating environment for children. Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the operation of the child-care center. Manage and coordinate curriculum with staff that complies with state and local requirements. Coordinate the annual licensing of the child-care center. Ensure the center facilities are safe for children and comply with laws and regulations. Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of COMAR. Communicate and collaborate with early childhood youth apprenticeship teacher Assist in supervising and educating all early childhood youth apprentices within the child-care center. Manage and support teaching staff and promote their professional development. Articulate the center's mission to employees and other stakeholders. Assist with interviewing, hiring, and training new staff members, ensuring they meet all policies and legal requirements. Recruit prospective families for enrollment. Complete ongoing training and courses to remain up to date on child-care standards and procedures. Opening the center every day and for ensuring proper closing. Maintain open, consistent, and effective communication with parents, provide parent education training, meet regarding their children and the center's policies, and assist and support as needed. Manage and oversee the budget and accounts and ensure that the center remains profitable. Assist in facilitating a marketing and communication plan. Provide accurate and meaningful annual performance evaluations for all child-care staff. Perform all duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong leadership, organizational, verbal and written communication, public relations, computer, problem solving, time management, and interpersonal skills Ability to coordinate center functions Ability to implement center policies and procedures, along with knowledge and implementation of Maryland's' child-care guidelines and state licensing Accepts and respects differences in children, families, and coworkers Friendly and approachable demeanor Consistently maintain a professional appearance, attitude, and work ethic Thorough understanding of child-care center operations to comply with local, state, and federal laws governing child care
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to bend, stoop, stand, and lift 25-50 lbs. daily
DUTY YEAR AND SALARY
This is an hourly, contractual position working 12-months with healthcare benefits and accrued sick leave. Hourly pay is $25.00.
