Job Description

Family Assistant | Durham, NC North State Nannies - 4.3 Durham, NC Job Details Part-time | Full-time $30 - $33 an hour 22 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Qualifications Household management Driver's License Instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) training Life skills building Nannying Teaching life skills Full Job Description A warm and welcoming family in Durham is seeking a mature, professional, and dependable Household Manager/Nanny to become a supportive partner to their stay-at-home mom and help keep their busy household running smoothly. The family has three children, ages 5, 3.5, and 22 months. The two older children attend school, while the youngest child is home full-time. Dad travels frequently for work and often has long workdays, so the family is looking for an additional pair of hands to provide both household support and childcare. This role will be approximately split between resetting and managing the home and caring for the children, depending on the family's needs each day. The family has a regular cleaner who handles deep cleaning, so they are not looking for a housekeeper. Instead, they would love someone who can help maintain the day-to-day flow and organization of the home.
Responsibilities may include:
Resetting and tidying the kitchen Loading and unloading the dishwasher Picking up and organizing books, toys, and children's belongings Tidying children's bedrooms and play areas Children's laundry, as well as laundry for Dad Washing and changing towels and bed linens Keeping the laundry room organized Putting away deliveries and household items Organizing spaces throughout the home when time allows Encouraging the children to participate in age-appropriate chores and responsibilities, such as taking their plates to the sink and helping clean up after themselves At times, the Household Manager/Nanny will provide care for the 22-month-old while Mom volunteers at the older children's school or attends appointments. Other times, the focus will be on household responsibilities until the older children return home. Mom will generally handle school drop-offs and pick-ups, but the ideal candidate should be comfortable stepping in occasionally when needed. The family is looking for someone whose caregiving style aligns with their parenting philosophy. They value a caregiver who is warm, calm, and firm, while also helping raise children with good manners and a growing sense of independence and responsibility. The family encourages independent, real-life play and exploration and does not allow screens during the week. They would love someone who does not feel the need to constantly entertain or engage the children every moment, but instead knows when to step back and allow them to explore, play independently, and develop their creativity. The ideal candidate will be happy, energetic, and genuinely enjoy their work. They should be mature, professional, and understand the importance of healthy boundaries. The family would love for this person to become a valued part of their lives while also respecting the family's privacy and household dynamics. Flexibility is important, as Dad's travel schedule may occasionally require the nanny to stay later and assist through bedtime when he is away for an extended period. The family would also like one later evening each week to allow the parents to enjoy a date night. Schedule The family is ideally looking for approximately32 guaranteed hours per week, with some flexibility for the right candidate. 3 days per week: 11:30 AM-5:30 PM 1 day per week: 9:30 AM-5:30 PM 1 later day per week: 1:00 PM-7:30 PM for a weekly date night The family has flexibility regarding which days follow the earlier and later schedules. The family also has a friendly black Lab, so candidates should be comfortable with pets in the home. Requirements Mature and professional Warm, calm, and dependable Experience working with multiple children Experience as a Nanny/Household Manager Comfortable balancing childcare and household responsibilities Able to take initiative and work independently Comfortable supporting a stay-at-home parent as a collaborative partner Values independent play and screen-free childcare Comfortable helping children learn responsibility and age-appropriate life skills Flexible with occasional changes to the schedule and later evenings Comfortable with a dog in the home Strong communication skills and an understanding of healthy professional boundaries This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Household Manager/Nanny who enjoys supporting both children and parents and takes pride in helping create a calm, organized, and happy home. North State Nannies (formerly Select Sitters) is a local nanny agency that connects qualified childcare providers with families. We work alongside qualified candidates to find a great fit and advocate for competitive pay and benefits. The family ultimately hires and employs the nanny.
