Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Part-Time Hospice Chaplain/ Spiritual Counselor to provide spiritual and emotional support to patients and families receiving hospice care throughout the Oakland and East Bay area. Position Summary The Hospice Chaplain/ Spiritual Counselor is an integral member of the interdisciplinary hospice team. This position provides spiritual care, counseling, and support to patients and their loved ones, respecting each individual's cultural, religious, and personal beliefs. The Spiritual Counselor assists patients and families in finding meaning, comfort, and peace during end-of-life care. Responsibilities
  • Assess the spiritual needs of hospice patients and families.
  • Provide spiritual counseling, emotional support, and bereavement assistance.
  • Offer prayer, scripture reading, rituals, or other spiritual practices based on patient preferences.
  • Coordinate with community clergy and faith leaders when requested.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to care planning.
  • Document visits and interventions in the electronic medical record.
  • Support staff with spiritual care education and consultation as needed. Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Counseling, or related field preferred.
  • At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred.
  • Experience in hospice, palliative care, hospital chaplaincy, or counseling strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to diverse cultural and religious traditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance.
