Job Description

St. Helen Parish St. Helen Catholic Church, Newbury, OH St. Helen Parish is seeking a faith-filled, collaborative, and mission-driven Pastoral Associate to assist the Pastor in fostering a vibrant and welcoming parish community centered on Jesus Christ. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic with a deep love for the Church, strong pastoral skills, and a passion for evangelization, discipleship, and parish life. The Pastoral Associate serves as a key member of the parish leadership team, supporting worship, faith formation, pastoral care, sacramental preparation, and ministry development while helping parishioners grow as intentional disciples.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Pastor and parish staff in advancing the mission and pastoral vision of the parish.
  • Coordinate and support sacramental preparation for Baptism, Marriage, OCIA, and funerals.
  • Develop and lead adult faith formation opportunities, retreats, prayer experiences, and seasonal spiritual programming.
  • Foster leadership development and support parish ministries, volunteers, and faith-sharing groups.
  • Provide pastoral care and accompaniment to individuals and families through various stages of life.
  • Assist with funeral planning, bereavement support, and pastoral outreach to parishioners in need.
  • Coordinate parish communication and encourage parishioner engagement and involvement.
  • Maintain sacramental records and ensure diocesan compliance, including Safe Environment requirements. Qualifications
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong personal faith and commitment to the mission of the Church.
  • Degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies, or related field preferred; Lay Ecclesial Ministry certification and relevant pastoral experience considered.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, technological, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, collaborate, and build relationships within a parish community.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required by parish ministry.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills. Desired Qualifications The ideal candidate is:
