Job Description

Overview The Director of Kids' and Family Ministry will serve alongside the WHY Church to lead children in following Jesus and equip families to develop their home as the primary place of faith formation. This role requires a passion for children to know Jesus and for every household to be discipled in their faith. Relating well to kids, parents, and volunteers as an inspiring Christian leader is essential. Context The WHY Church is a congregation in Elk River, Minnesota - a city of 25,000 about 40 minutes northwest of Minneapolis. Founded in 2010, the WHY Church was planted in one of the great gathering points of our city - the Elk River YMCA. We value collaboration in ministry, investing in the next generation, teaching the Bible, global missions, and serving our community. The mission of the WHY Church is to seek Jesus, connect together, and share His love. Responsibilities Lead the church's efforts to minister to children from birth through elementary school. Equip families for the task of raising up the next generation as disciples of Jesus. Oversee our Faith at Home initiative and Faith at Home Center. Facilitate the Sunday morning Kids' Time (children's message) up front during worship. Discern and determine our Kids' Ministry curriculum. Implement curriculum, organize, and oversee Sunday WHY Kids (Sunday school). Build a team of volunteers for Kids' Ministry. Collaborate with Student Ministry to coordinate curriculum and milestones. Partner with YMCA Kids Stuff for childcare scheduling and the annual Gingerbread Bash. Help develop the annual budget for Kids' and Family Ministry. Participate in Sunday morning duties as needed (shepherding, serving, leadership). Participate in staff meetings and retreats. Requirements A growing Christian faith and character. A commitment to the mission of the church. A calling to vocational ministry. A lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for spiritual leadership. A workstyle that includes teamwork, diligence, initiative, independence, and teachability. Bachelor's degree. Ministry experience expected. Understanding of and willingness to serve within the doctrinal commitments of the church. Experience ministering to kids and their families. Desire to teach lessons from the Bible to kids with conviction, compassion, and care. Ability to recruit, train, and lead adult volunteers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in and willingness to support the digital needs of ministry. Relationships Work alongside and support the Staff Team Report to Pastor Bjorn Dixon and the Leadership Team Compensation Part-time @ approx. 20 hours per week Continuing Education opportunities
