A Ministry Opportunity at Sparta Presbyterian Church For generations, faithful people have built Sparta Presbyterian Church through worship, prayer, music, service, generosity, and love. Now, we believe God is calling us into a new chapter. We envision a church where every generation belongs—where longtime members worship alongside young families, children and teenagers grow in faith, and older adults are honored for their wisdom and experience. We are seeking a pastor who shares that vision: someone who cares deeply for those who have sustained our congregation while joyfully reaching out to new families, neighbors, and opportunities to share the love of Christ. Sparta Presbyterian Church is a welcoming congregation of approximately 100 members (40 regular attendees) located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern North Carolina. We love God, one another and our community. Our congregation is known for warm welcomes, genuine friendships, joyful service, and a commitment to helping others. In recent years, we have supported local ministries, hosted community events, raised funds for those in need, provided food and practical assistance, and opened our church to community groups and gatherings. We believe even a small church can make a remarkable difference. A Church Filled with Music Music is an important part of our worship and congregational life. Our approximately 12-member choir, together with our Music Director, leads worship and presents special seasonal programs, including our beloved Christmas cantata. Your Ministry As our pastor, you will have the opportunity to: Preach, teach, and lead meaningful worship. Celebrate the Sacraments. Provide compassionate pastoral care. Encourage members to discover and use their gifts. Work alongside dedicated elders, musicians, and volunteers. Build relationships throughout Sparta and Alleghany County. Help us become an increasingly welcoming church for every generation. Our community also faces challenges including food insecurity, loneliness, addiction, and mental health struggles. We believe God has placed our church here to be a source of hope.
