Position Details Location:
New Hanover Regional Medical Center Non-benefited, PRN (as-needed), on-call role Candidates/applicants must live within a 30-minute response time to the facility Requires availability on nights, weekends, and holidays
Responsibilities Deliver Spiritual Care:
Respond to referrals across inpatient/outpatient settings; collaborate with chaplain team; use spiritual assessments to guide care; offer prayer, sacraments, and rituals as requested.
Provide Supportive Counseling:
Offer emotional and spiritual support in person or via phone/video platforms.
Document Care:
Record interactions and interventions in the electronic medical record and other designated tools.
Support End-of-Life Needs:
Assist with Advance Directives; provide grief support; help plan funerals/memorials; conduct services when appropriate. Consult on
Psychosocial Issues:
Serve on teams/committees; advise staff on complex emotional/spiritual concerns.
Support Staff Wellbeing:
Respond to crises (e.g., Code Lavender, CISM); lead self-care initiatives (retreats, services); offer burnout support and education. Engage with
Community:
Represent the organization at local events; speak to community groups; educate clergy on patient care challenges. Participate in
Hospital Initiatives:
Join interdisciplinary rounds, leadership events, and programs like
Choices and Champions What We're Looking For:
Education:
Graduate Degree, required. Master's of Divinity or graduate theological degree ordination or equivalent and endorsement by denominations or faith groups endorsing body. Completion of four units of CPE from a nationally accredited body.
Experience:
Minimum of two years Spiritual Care experience in a healthcare setting, preferred. Roles requiring communication across disciplines, preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Eligible for certification by APC, CPSP, or other equivalent national certifying body, required. Board certification completed within 3 years of hire date, required. Why Novant Health?
