Job Responsibilities:
Coordinates and plans worship services, study groups, and a comprehensive spiritual care program that supports Arbor Acres' overall wellness goals. Plans and conducts memorial services for residents and their families as requested. In consultation with the Wellness Arts Department, Life Enrichment Department, and CHWO develop and facilitates programs such as Bible study, book studies, writing or poetry groups, and other activities exploring diverse expressions/experiences of spirituality across all facilities. Provides pastoral care to residents moving to a higher level of care in Asbury Place and Fitzgerald Health Center, including support before and after moves between levels of care. Coordinates and participates in an ongoing program of pastoral visitation that is inclusive of both home and hospital visitation. Provides short-term counseling and referral services to residents, families of residents, and staff. Maintains and cultivates the relationships between Arbor Acres and the Western N.C. Conference of the United Methodist Church and local churches, local synagogues and worship communities attended by residents. Serves as a liaison with district superintendents, ministers and church officials of various denominations. Preaches and conducts programs in local churches, as requested. Attends appropriate meetings such as level of care, care planning and resident life enrichment wellness meetings Town Hall, Board Meeting, and provides opening prayer, as requested. Serves as a counselor to employees and manages the Employee Assistance Fund according to established policy and guidelines. Supports the implementation at least annually, of an End of Life Care education program for the benefit of residents, residents' families, and staff. Is available during emergencies to assist the Incident Command Team and during inclement weather, when requested. Cultivates and maintains relationships with area agencies and non-profit organizations committed to serving older adults in ways that support residents and align with the mission of Arbor Acres. Maintains a varied schedule, in partnership and coordination with the chaplain team, that ensures staff presence on Sundays, and throughout the week and in the evenings. As assigned by the CHWO, serves as a consultant to employees on ethical issues and provides educational opportunities for residents, families of residents and staff on pertinent issues. Minimum Education Bachelor of Arts degree from a recognized college and Master of Divinity Degree from an accredited theological seminary. Clinical residency work in an accredited program completing a minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education or experience as a Chaplain in a retirement community. Minimum Experience A minimum of three years of full or part-time experience in pastoral care as a chaplain, including worship leadership and planning. Evidence of ability to preach, teach, lead groups, and conduct workshops. Clinical residency work (see education.) Licenses and/or Certifications Is an ordained minister of a Christian Denomination, and endorsed by or eligible for endorsement by the division of chaplaincy of the denomination by which he/she has been ordained.
