Cook & House Manager-Clergy Rectory The Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi (Metuchen, NJ), a large suburban Cathedral parish and school, is in search of a Cook & House Manager for the priests' rectory. The role reports directly to the Rector and is responsible for the clergy's meal preparation, while also overseeing the rectory's household management and maintenance. Position Overview The Cook & House Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth, respectful, and efficient operation of the clergy rectory. This role supports the daily life of the resident clergy by managing household operations, preparing meals, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and coordinating vendors or services as needed. The ideal candidate is discreet, organized, service oriented, and comfortable working in a faith based residential setting. Key Responsibilities Cooking & Meal Preparation  Meal Planning — Create weekly menus based on clergy preferences, dietary needs, and liturgical schedules and grocery shopping  Daily Meal Preparation — Prepare nutritious, high-quality meals (typically lunch and dinner; breakfast as needed).  Food Safety — Maintain proper food handling, storage, and kitchen sanitation.  Special Occasions — Prepare meals for feast days, parish events, or visiting clergy.  Event Support — Assist with small gatherings, parish-related meals, or hospitality needs. Household Management  Household Operations — Oversee daily functioning of the rectory, ensuring all living spaces are tidy, organized, and well maintained.  Facilities Coordination- Coordinate with maintenance and repairs with the Facilities Management  Inventory Management — Track and replenish household supplies, groceries, and cleaning products.  Laundry Care — Wash, iron, and maintain clergy garments, linens, and household laundry Household Cleanliness  Cleaning Oversight — Ensure all common areas, kitchen, dining room, and clergy living spaces remain clean and orderly.  Deep Cleaning — Perform or coordinate seasonal deep cleaning tasks.  Guest Rooms — Prepare and maintain guest accommodations for visiting clergy or parish guests. Qualifications  Experience Requirements — Prior experience as a cook or facility and/or hospitality management desirable.  Cooking Skills — Ability to prepare high-quality meals for small groups.  Discretion & Confidentiality — Respect for clergy privacy and parish life.  Organizational Skills — Strong time management and multitasking abilities.  Physical Capability — Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform household tasks.  Background Check — Must pass diocesan screening requirements. Work Schedule  Weekly Schedule — Typically 25-30 hours per week; some flexibility required for church events or feast days.  OnCall Needs — Occasional weekend or evening support. Compensation & Benefits  Salary Range — Commensurate with experience and parish budget.  Benefits — May include paid time off, holidays, meals during shifts, and housing considerations (if applicable).
