Position:
WORSHIP, CARE, PROGRAM PASTOR
(Bi-Vocational) At this juncture, and for the near-term future, we are in need of a part-time or bi-vocational Pastor
  • with office hours, by appointment. Cortland Christian Church, of Cortland Ohio is an independent, non-denominational, autonomous, congregational-governed body, founded in 1828. The Pastor's main responsibility is to provide spiritual guidance, leadership, and inspiration
  • based on the teachings from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This responsibility is intended to develop a personal ministry on the part of every member
  • to know Christ and to make Him known.
Duties of the Pastor are:
WORSHIP 1
) Plan all worship service parts and provide information for the weekly bulletin
  • and for the monthly Church Bell newsletter. 2) Lead and preach in the Sunday worship services (3 Sunday's each month). Handle all items in the service generally done by the Pastor
  • sermon, children's message, prayer requests, altar invitation, communion, and benediction.
3) Plan and conduct special church events, such as Maundy Thursday and Ash Wednesday, and coordinate with the respective standing committee(s) such as Worship, Finance, etc., and with the Elders, Deacons, and Deaconesses. CARE 4) Visit members who are hospitalized, home bound, and nursing facility residents. 5) Handle baptisms, new member inductions, and new believer professions. 6) Conduct funerals and officiate at weddings for members of the congregation. 7) Provide pastoral coaching and make appropriate referrals. 8) Teach the confirmation class, the pre-baptism orientation, and the new members' class for youth and adults.
PROGRAM 9
) Understand the beliefs, foundation, and 200 year history of Cortland Christian Church. 10) Strengthen the congregation's new identity as an independent church, following the provisions of our new Constitution and Bylaws
  • emphasizing our stated beliefs and our operating committees structure.
11) Help the church be committed to the future and to the growth of the congregation. 12) Work with the congregation's governing body (the General Board) and report at the monthly board meeting.
