Job Description

Calvary Community Church is a church which believes the Bible is the inspired and inerrant word of God. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone . Calvary Community Church is seeking a full time Pastor to lead and disciple our congregation in a Christ-centered, Bible-based ministry. The Pastor will serve as the shepherd of our congregation by being the primary preacher and spiritual leader. Responsibilities The Pastor is responsible to the church to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, teach the Bible, engage in pastoral care ministries, and provide oversight of all areas of church life and committees. The responsibilities of the Pastor may be outlined in terms of primary biblical roles as follows: a .
Elder/Overseer :
the principal leader and vision caster of the church. (Acts 20:28; I Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; I Peter 5:1-4) b .
Evangelist :
models the practice of personal evangelism and ensures that the church is challenged and equipped to be obedient to the Great Commission. (II Timothy 4:5; Matthew 28:19) c .
Shepherd :
models the heart of the Chief Shepherd and ensures the church is well led, cared for, and protected. (Acts 20:28; I Peter 5:1-4)
Preacher/Teacher :
the principal communicator of God s Word in public worship and ensures the Church is growing to maturity in Christ. (Acts 6:4; Ephesians 4:11; II Timothy 4:1-4; Titus 1:9) Oversee and lead outreach and pastoral care efforts, including biblical counseling, visiting members of the church and non-members of the community, performing weddings, conducting funeral services and other church ceremonies. Qualifications The Pastor will be an individual called of God and set apart to the gospel ministry; an individual who is devoted to the Lord and able to give testimony to their love for the Lord and call to pastoral ministry as a general practitioner; and, exemplifies a godly character, is compassionate toward others, and demonstrates a high level of competence. Is called by the Holy Spirit and confirmed by a body of believers through ordination (or in the process of becoming ordained). (Acts 20:28; Titus 1:5; I Timothy 3:1) Will equip, educate, and edify the church. (Ephesians 4:11-13) Conforms to scriptural ministry expectations. (I Thessalonians 5:12-13) Will lead by example alongside church leadership. (I Peter 5:1-3) Will exercise biblical authority and carry out a Christian witness. (Hebrews 13:17; II Timothy 4:1-5) Meets biblical pastoral qualifications. (I Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9) Exemplifies qualities of godly character including integrity, humility, compassion, and servant leadership as outlined in the biblical qualifications for church leaders. Enjoys living in a small-town, agriculturally-centered community in rural Pennsylvania. Previous pastoral/ministry experience (preferred) Seminary or Bible College degree (preferred) Professional Competences The Pastor will possess:
Communication Skills :
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate biblical truths clearly and effectively.
Interpersonal Skills :
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport, foster relationships, and provide pastoral care to all generations of the congregation.
Collaboration :
Ability to work collaboratively with church staff and volunteers, fostering teamwork, unity, and a shared sense of mission and purpose within the congregation. In addition, serve as a representative for the church with the Greater Valley Ministerium (GVM).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Preaching and Teaching :
Prepare and deliver biblically-based sermons that inspire, challenge, and encourage the congregation to grow in their faith and relationship with God.
Worship Leadership :
Lead worship services, guiding the congregation in prayer, praise, and participation in worship experiences that glorify God and edify the body of believers.
Pastoral Care :
Provide compassionate pastoral care and counseling to individuals and families within the congregation, offering support, guidance, and spiritual direction in times of joy, sorrow, and need.
Sacramental Ministry :
Administer sacraments in accordance with the church s beliefs and practices, facilitating opportunities for spiritual renewal and transformation through these sacred acts.
Community Engagement :
Engage with the local community, building relationships, serving others, and sharing the love of Christ through acts of compassion, outreach initiatives, and partnerships with other churches and organizations.
Leadership and Administration :
Provide leadership and oversight for the church s ministries, programs, and activities, working collaboratively with church staff and volunteers to fulfill the mission and vision of the congregation.
Discipleship and Education :
Equip and empower believers for ministry through discipleship initiatives, the training and preparation of youth for responsible church membership, and participation in Vacation Bible School.
Compensation :
Salary and benefits will be discussed with the finance committee and will be based on experience and education level.
