Job Description

Overview First Baptist Church of Erwin, Tennessee, prayerfully seeks a committed Christian leader with a passion for Christ and discipling youth. The ideal candidate relates well with youth, parents, and volunteers.
He or she will demonstrate:
⁃ A growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ ⁃ Excitement for equipping young people for lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ, a commitment to the local church, and calling into mission ⁃ A ministry of presence with youth Primary responsibilities will be on FBC campus on Sundays and Wednesdays and with students in middle and high school. Weekly Responsibilities ⁃ Teach youth Sunday school in coordination with other youth teachers with curriculum consistent with FBC's doctrinal statement ⁃ Lead Wednesday night youth gathering along with youth volunteers and promote this gathering in the community ⁃ Be available to spend time with FBC youth both on and off campus ⁃ Work on promoting FBC youth ministry on social media platforms ⁃ Work with pastor to develop youth ministry presence on high school and middle school campuses ⁃ Be attentive to youth and parents on Sundays and Wednesdays ⁃ Cultivate and plan weekly youth involvement in weekly worship in coordination with pastor and music minister Other Responsibilities throughout the year ⁃ Coordinate monthly youth committee meetings with youth committee chairperson ⁃ Work with youth committee to plan and carry out an annual calendar of fellowship activities and mission involvement, giving special attention to summer programming (e.g. youth camp) ⁃ Work with the youth committee to plan the annual youth ministry budget ⁃ Work with other church committees and lay leaders as youth ministry requires (e.g. van, prop/space, hospitality, finance, Sunday School Superintendent, etc.) ⁃ Participate in scheduled staff, church council, and deacons' meetings in consultation with the pastor ⁃ Work with pastor and lay leaders to minister to the needs of parents/caregivers ⁃ Coordinate and get approval for absences with the pastor ⁃ Be open to other opportunities for new ministry involvement in collaboration with the pastor (e.g., worship leadership, ministry vision, outreach strategy, etc.) Requirements ⁃ Earned or in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree; or graduate studies in divinity or theology ⁃ Understanding of and willingness to serve within FBC's doctrinal commitments ⁃ Willingness to lead people of varying ethnicities, backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, genders, and generations ⁃ Desire to lead, teach, and mentor youth in understanding and applying biblical guidance ⁃ Work in relationship with local church and para-church ministries (e.g. YoungLife) ⁃ Submit to a background check
