Job Description

Contemporary Worship Leader First United Methodist Church Victoria Reports To:
Senior Pastor In consultation with the Senior Pastoral, the Worship Leader is tasked with planning, preparing for and leading the weekly contemporary worship service that connects with a diverse congregation, promotes authentic worship and proclaims the uncompromised message of the Gospel. The Worship Leader has a heart for worship, a deep understanding of contemporary Christian music and the ability to inspire and provide spiritual leadership for the congregation.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates a strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission and ministry of the Church.
  • Previous experience leading contemporary worship and engaging a congregation in meaningful worship is preferred.
  • Proficiently plays at least one instrument commonly used in contemporary worship (e.g., guitar, keyboard, or piano).
  • Possesses a strong singing voice and the ability to lead worship with authenticity, confidence, and an engaging presence.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of worship technology, including sound systems, lighting, presentation software, video projection, and related equipment.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of a team, demonstrating sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and a positive, servant-hearted attitude.
  • Is a self-motivated, organized individual who pursues excellence and takes initiative with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and Worship Committee to plan and execute worship services and worship series.
  • Select, arrange, and prepare music that complements the Pastor's message and the theme of each worship service, while seeking input from worship team members on song selection.
  • Schedule and lead worship team rehearsals.
  • Lead the congregation in worship and direct the flow and elements of the service.
  • Ensure that stage setup, lighting, sound, video systems, and worship presentation software are prepared and functioning properly for each service.
  • Oversee the design and decoration of the worship space to maintain a fresh, welcoming environment that reflects the current season or ministry emphasis.
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor musicians, vocalists, and technical team members to meet current worship needs and build for future ministry.
  • Stay current with contemporary Christian music, worship resources, and emerging trends, thoughtfully incorporating appropriate new elements into worship.
  • Collaborate with Pastor and church staff to ensure worship supports the overall mission and ministry of the church.
  • Participate in the life of the church through worship, fellowship, ministry events, and other activities.
  • Attend staff meetings, Church Council meetings, Church Conferences, Worship Committee meetings, annual ministry planning meetings, and other meetings as requested.
  • Pursue continuing education through workshops, conferences, and other training opportunities to strengthen worship leadership and ministry effectiveness in collaboration with SPRC and Senior Pastor. Approved training and professional development expenses will be funded by the church.
  • Work under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Pastor.
Benefits & Salary This is a part-time position with four (4) paid Sundays off per year (excluding Easter & Christmas). The position is based on quality completion of the assigned responsibilities. Job performance and compensation will be evaluated annually by the Senior Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
