No Department Details Summary Provides spiritual and emotional support during illness, injury, crisis and/or emergency. Performs spiritual care, effectively documenting spiritual care visits. Conducts spiritual care services and duties including arranging worship and administering rituals. Job Description Educates internal and external healthcare groups on spiritual and religious care and responsibilities of chaplains. Networks with community faith leaders as appropriate. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with other members to develop and provide spiritual support to client and families. Demonstrates knowledge and experience in providing spiritual support to client and families. Demonstrates ability to minister to people of diverse faith traditions, displaying respect for cultural diversity. Provides education and spiritual care events within the hospital and broader community. Serves to support, teach, and mentor peers and students when appropriate and requested. When requested, provides spiritual leadership at organizational events such as memorial services, dedications and public events. Manage complex and challenging cases by consulting with interdisciplinary team and chaplain peers. Follows the Association of Professional Chaplains Code of Professional Ethics. Addresses the spiritual care referrals and consults in a timely manner. Follows departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrates critical thinking skills under adverse situations in order to respond appropriately to patients and families. Possesses awareness of personal biases and demonstrates the ability to set them aside while at work. Possesses ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships. Exhibits initiative with events. Provides leadership qualities when necessary. Participates in departmental and staff meetings as scheduled. Depending on location, may be required to serve on call as assigned. Qualifications Master's degree or above required. Three Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units required. Four CPEs preferred. One Unit = 400 hours, 300 clinical ministry, 100 group experience under supervision of certified supervisor of CPE program. Ordained, licensed, or commissioned to function in a religious vocation by an appropriate religious authority required and obtains letter of endorsement or letter of good standing from their faith group. Additionally, meets one of the following criteria:
  • Minimum of three units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required.
  • Board Certification by Association of Professional Chaplains or other cognate group or certification eligible, obtaining certification within two years of hire.
  • Clinical experience as a Chaplain in a medical or healthcare setting for minimum of three consecutive years in full time status.
