This role is central to our strategic priority of increasing intergenerational ministry and connecting families with God and one another. The Next Gen/Family Minister (NGM),
AKA:
Director of Children, Youth/YA & Family Ministry nurtures a strong faith foundation for individuals from birth through 12th grade+ by cultivating relationships with them and their families, and establishing/overseeing and helping vision a cohesive discipleship plan and volunteer ministry while equipping parents to lead their homes in faith. This is a leadership role that requires a heart for outreach and a desire to help connect families and the wider church body. The NGM is the staff member directly responsible for: 1. Overseeing the children, youth & family ministry (CYFM) and help implement the mission, vision, and discipleship process to form children, youth, families and young adults in the Christian faith. 2. Assist in continuing current CYFM and ongoing evaluation with restructuring as needed and support the young adult ministry and the transition of high schoolers into it. 3. Handle day-to-day operations and tasks that support the volunteers, events, and needs of the CYFM. 4. Resource, train, and empower the CYFM volunteers, regularly lead/participate as needed in the children and youth groups, Children's Church (Sunday School), parent classes, and family events. 5. Helping church and child care parents form children and youth in faithful living, nurturing in them a sense of Christian identity and service.
Essential Weekly, Monthly or Seasonal Functions & Responsibilities:
a) Work with the family ministry team to develop and implement children (Preschool & Elementary) and Youth (Middle & High School) ministries including relevant, engaging, nurturing, fellowship building, and disciple making children and youth group gatherings and events. Includes providing/selecting relevant and engaging curriculum you lead/teach yourself and/or coordinate other volunteers to facilitate. b) Coordinate and/or teach weekly chapel lessons for three Christ Church Child Care classes and an additional older kid's chapel in the summer. Coordinate/support annual chapel Christmas recital and child care graduation. Engage Child Care families and help build the bridge between them and the Church. c) In conjunction with staff and appropriate ministry teams, lead/assist with visioning, planning and implementing family ministry events that offer fellowship and involve families in outreach and missions. d) Resource church and child care families by curating resources for the "Faith at Home Center" and from "Right Now Media," and helping coordinate classes on parenting, relationships, and stewardship. e) In conjunction with Pastor, coordinate children/youth/families (Christmas nativity…) and the puppet ministry involvement in worship and assist with confirmation classes, young adult & puppet ministry if interested. f) Contribute articles/information as needed to the weekly bulletin and email, monthly newsletter, website, and information boards or mailers to advertise and solicit support of CYFM and events. Coordinate with the office to use social media and various communication venues to reach out to and inform youth and families. g) Be in regular contact with youth and families to encourage participation and build bonds with them. h) Other duties as assigned by the lead pastor. Qualifications & Abilities a) Christian (personal relationship with Jesus), seeking to grow and live as a disciple of Jesus Christ. b) Called by God to be a servant leader in a church ministry setting and able to pass background check. c) Supportive of Christ Church's mission, vision, discipleship process, culture and direction. d) Theology Degree/certification in ministry and/or relevant paid work experience. (H.S. diploma required) e) Values and beliefs consistent with traditional Biblical theology (Wesleyan/Methodist is our expression) f) Person of integrity who embodies the Christian faith in practice and leadership. (Decisions based on what's best for the church/ministry, be forgiving, loving, trusting, honest). g) Able to work
Full-Time:
40 hours/week (evenings and weekends at times with time off to compensate). h) Commitment to doing yearly continuing education (workshops, readings, podcasts, conferences...). i) Practice self-care to stay healthy spiritually, emotionally, and physically (flex schedule, take time off…). j) Communicate effectively in oral and written form in general as well as the gospel message in particular. k) A high level of passion, energy, creativity, flexibility, and organization. l) Can effectively utilize electronic technology (e.g. computer, social media, e-mail, videos, AI…). m) Able to equip, support, and work with support staff, other leaders, ministry teams and volunteers. n) Maintain healthy relationships with coworkers, participants and volunteers by connecting while also keeping boundaries of personal/professional information. o) Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time and set own schedule well, a self-starter who can also take direction. p) Ability to successfully delegate tasks to and coordinate programming with others in the church. q) Read financial spreadsheets to make budget requests and manage a budget. r) Execute major events and trips involving multiple details and volunteers. s) Commit time/energy to events and relationships with children, youth, families and young adults as needed. t) Leadership, ability to connect well with others, problem solving, patience, teaching. u) Work as a team with staff: bring ideas, support and follow directions. (Pastor/SPRC sets job description, Pastor assigns duties. Share issues with Pastor, then SPRC if needed, not others, respect decisions). v) Ask for help/guidance if needed. Do your best and grow through experience. Be teachable. w) Take initiative, if something you try fails when you did your best, learn from it and try again. x) Work within the framework of Scripture & Christ Church's mission/policy/polity/culture. y) Agree to/live out the expectations of this job description and the employee policy handbook. z) Help out in other areas of Church ministry when needed and as interested/gifted. Physical Demands Assisting event volunteers with set up or cleanup or moving items in/out of storage can require some lifting as the staff person's ability allows. Able to lift 50 pounds. Work Environment An office is provided on the church grounds. In addition to programs that take place on the grounds of the church, some of the work will take place away from the office and not only in official gathering times, but also the times leading up to and following gatherings. Time in the community at events and networking may take you off-site as well.   • $42,000 (Based on experience and education).
  • Housing details: 3-Bed, 1 &1/2-Bath, fire place, fenced yard, basement, appliances utilities and normal/expected repairs/replacements provided by church.
Prefer no pets, but negotiable, security deposit for direct damage leading to repairs will be arraigned.
Resident provides typical use items:
internet, paid T.V., light bulbs, paper towel, yard clean up, mowing, snow removal… A housing agreement will have details.
