Sunday through Thursday from 7:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. during the first quarter of the 2026-27 academic year (August 10 to October 9, 2026) with the potential to continue through the remainder of the academic year. Founded in 1863 by Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV, 'Iolani School is an Episcopal day and boarding school in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi enrolling approximately 2,200 students on its K-12, 25-acre urban campus. We strive to create a learning environment where students of all backgrounds can reach their fullest potential. Through a rigorous and innovative curriculum, we emphasize academic excellence, moral leadership, and service to others in its commitment to developing young people of character and integrity.
Job Summary :
The Residential Life Study Hall Proctor is an organized, compassionate, and student-centered individual who supports new boarding students by fostering a structured, supportive, and academically focused environment during evening study hall. This position demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and is able to build positive relationships with students, with a commitment to helping develop effective study habits, organization skills, and personal responsibility. The proctor supervises evening study sessions, facilitates brief academic success lessons, and encourages students to utilize campus academic and wellness resources.
Essential Responsibilities :
Supervise and support students during evening study hall. Take attendance daily and facilitate student check-in conversations designed to build community and connection. Communicate student absences or tardiness to the Administrator on Duty (AOD). Guide students in planning and organization by helping them track assignments, assessments, projects, and extracurricular commitments. Foster a productive and respectful learning environment conducive to focused academic work. Encourage students to seek support from teachers, evening tutors, counselors, Writing Center staff, Math Center staff, and Residential Life personnel when appropriate. Provide general academic guidance and subject-area assistance when possible. Monitor student well-being and communicate concerns to appropriate school personnel. Collaborate with Residential Life staff, counselors, tutors, and administrators to support student success. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Experience working with middle school or high school students is preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish positive relationships with adolescents from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to maintain a structured and supportive environment. Commitment to student development, mentorship, and continuous learning. Experience with Canvas and English language learners is a plus.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements :
Ability to see and hear within normal parameters with or without correction. Full range of head, neck, and back movement; unrestricted ability to bend knees, raise arms above the head, and to move hands, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds without difficulty. Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for sustained periods of time. Work is generally performed Monday through Friday during normal business hours, and may include occasional evening and weekend work. Must successfully pass fingerprint background check and provide TB clearance due to working in proximity to children.
