Job Description

Serving Oahu for over 48 years, IHS has become Hawaii's most comprehensive human services agency, leading the fight to end and prevent homelessness across the island. We don't just offer a single service, we offer a full continuum of care: emergency shelters, medical respite, housing programs, health services, employment assistance, and outreach that meets people exactly where they are. Now, we're looking for someone to join us on the front lines — and grow with us while they do it.
The Role:
As a Resident Assistant , you won't just clock in and out. You'll be a steady, compassionate presence in the lives of people navigating some of the hardest moments they'll ever face. You'll help our guests feel seen, safe, and supported and in doing so, you'll build skills in crisis response, de-escalation, health observation, and human connection that no classroom can teach.
What You'll Do:
Deliver excellent, compassionate care that reflects our Vision, Mission, and Values Keep a close eye on guests' physical condition, mood, and behavior and speak up when something changes; document thoroughly to ensure a continuity of care Use de-escalation techniques to defuse tense situations and keep everyone safe Build genuine connections with guests, encouraging them into activities that fight isolation and boost mental well-being Pitch in on the everyday things that make a temporary home feel like a community through cooking, cleaning, and keeping things running smoothly What You'll Bring At least 1 year of experience in care-giving, security, customer service, or nursing aid work, ideally with disenfranchised or medically fragile populations The ability and heart to communicate with, care for, and engage guests of all ages with complex health/mental health issues and comprehension levels Good computer skills — comfortable navigating Gmail, Microsoft applications, and databases Schedule We know real impact happens around the clock. You'll be scheduled for one or more of the following shifts: 6:00 AM
  • 2:30 PM 2:00 PM
  • 10:30 PM 10:00 PM
  • 6:30 AM Compensation Starting at $18/hr , then based on experience Ready to Make a Real Difference?
