Jobs › Taunton, MA › Field Inspector - Assistant to Res… State of Massachusetts Field Inspector - Assistant to Resident Engineer (Civil Engineer I) Taunton, MA Apply Position Summary Incumbents of this role prepare or review plans, designs, specifications and cost estimates for engineering projects; prepare and/or review reports, studies and analytical data; perform calculations relation to engineering problems; perform engineering surveys; inspect construction and/or maintenance work; and perform professional engineering duties in such areas as highways, bridges, building and facilities all in accordance with sound engineering principles, applicable laws and regulations and standards. Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspects and monitors construction field operations for conformance with MassDOT policies and procedures.
- Inspects and monitors contractor operations.
- Samples and tests materials are in conformance with MassDOT RMS procedures.
- Monitors construction activities and recommend revisions to procedures, methods and materials when necessary to resolve construction related issues.
- Monitor utility contractors' progress for conformance with Force Account work and schedule impacts.
- Enforces Contractor compliance with all applicable safety standards.
- Enforces Contractor compliance with environmental standards and permit requirements.
- Enforces Contractor compliance with Plans, Specifications and Standards.
- Monitors temporary traffic control setups and takes appropriate action to eliminate travel delays.
- Documents construction progress by following MassDOT project recordkeeping policies and procedures as directed by the Resident Engineer.
- Prepares and/or provides information for Bi-weekly pay estimates (CQE's).
- Prepares and/or provides information for B&E Estimates at 50% and 75% or as needed.
- Prepares and/or provides information for the project diary for completion by 9am for the preceding day.
- Maintains project records relative to quantity documentation (QCL, CalcBook).
- Maintain the RMS-360 in close consultation with the District Materials Engineer.
- Prepares Daily Reports and Pay Slips accurately and in a timely manner.
- Monitors QCL items for required sketches and summary sheets.
- Assists in review of Baseline Schedules and Monthly Updates.
- Enters Traffic information into the Work Zone Manager Tool (WZM). Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in various civil engineering software (AutoCAD, GIS, excel, etc.).
- Ability to work/interact in a diverse workforce.
- Strong math skills.
- Excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals.
- II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in civil engineering or civil engineering technology , may be substituted for the required experience.
NOTE:
The terms civil engineering and civil engineering technology include related engineering disciplines such as construction, survey, hydraulics, design, transportation, structural, soils, sanitary, environmental, drafting, highway, architectural, mining, airport and materials.- Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be required.
